OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
Just been advised that the league will from this weekend be sending out official refs for the reserve fixtures for Sat & Sun Prem Reserve Fixtures as well as 2 official linesmen for every A Team game.
Good move and lets hope none of the clubs try and be tight arses (or could be looked at as wanting to make sure there home team gets a result) and defy the league and still put the club refs in - no excuses can be made - the refs are available and the league will send them.
The club refs will still be used for the C divisions.

Awesome result, except for the few clubs that have club refs that actually want to do games, or like the few extra bucks.bigpond wrote:Just been advised that the league will from this weekend be sending out official refs for the reserve fixtures for Sat & Sun Prem Reserve Fixtures as well as 2 official linesmen for every A Team game.

Does this mean ref stocks are up on previous seasons???
We've noticed more official linesmen for Div 1 games already this year.
It's a good move - it means up and coming refs can get practice in the reserves, then learn by watching the top refs go about their business in the first team games.
Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
Stick to the C grade - they can still do that and earn a buck.blackout wrote:Awesome result, except for the few clubs that have club refs that actually want to do games, or like the few extra bucks.bigpond wrote:Just been advised that the league will from this weekend be sending out official refs for the reserve fixtures for Sat & Sun Prem Reserve Fixtures as well as 2 official linesmen for every A Team game.

Any club that doesn't use the official refs should be frowned upon and like I said in my previous post that maybe they just want to ensure the desired result is achieved for the home team - what other way can you look at it??
1st everyone was whinging that there were never official refs for the reserves and now they are available and what u telling me clubs r going to whinge that there club refs really want to do it for a few bucks and cant afford the full $60 for the official ref - really if the clubs are that desperate to save money they must be on the bones of there ars es...
Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
I think that is awesome news... back in my day we always had official refs in ressies and it was good because it kept the game fair...
I can't see any club knocking back officials - makes no sense really.
Also now those Div 1 teams can play the offside trap without too much fear of lino getting it wrong...

Good on the league, but surely clubs would have budgetted their costs for the year based on not having these refs?
What's the cost difference between a proper ref in B grade, and a club ref?
And now the linesmen cost is added. Should stop a few verbal barrages to players running the line now.

can't be more than 20 bucks can it? Official i think is 60 and club was like 40. not 100% sure.Bacon888 wrote:Good on the league, but surely clubs would have budgetted their costs for the year based on not having these refs?

And also the clubs with dodgy reserve linesman have to be more on there toes as well - an official ref will be more ready to over rule blantant cheating then a club ref.jonnomath wrote:I think that is awesome news... back in my day we always had official refs in ressies and it was good because it kept the game fair...

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
I didn't want to use the "cheating" word. i think 95% of them are honest as can be but just are either too slow or don't know the rules. Either way it stops with official ressies refs and official first team linesman. Positive all around.bigpond wrote:And also the clubs with dodgy reserve linesman have to be more on there toes as well - an official ref will be more ready to over rule blantant cheating then a club ref.jonnomath wrote:I think that is awesome news... back in my day we always had official refs in ressies and it was good because it kept the game fair...

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
finally, some common sense from the SAASL, in regards to refs for the B team and linesman for the A team.
however, their are many club refs that wont be happy......

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
Thats awesome news.
There have been so many issues around club refs and linesmen over the years that this has to be music to most clubs ears.

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
I think they should be encouraged to officially join the refs association and do a game on the day their club doesn't play. then they can get their fix and fitness and more money.marado wrote:finally, some common sense from the SAASL, in regards to refs for the B team and linesman for the A team.

If possible of course!
Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
Brilliant newsa, as a ressies player I'm all for this. TBH, most "home" refs that I have seen over the past couple of years have been pretty good anyway. Having a neutral ref takes away from people suggesting the ref is playing favourites though.
Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
Absolutely....There is no down side to this what so ever.....jonnomath wrote:I think they should be encouraged to officially join the refs association and do a game on the day their club doesn't play. then they can get their fix and fitness and more money.marado wrote:finally, some common sense from the SAASL, in regards to refs for the B team and linesman for the A team.

Hopefully the Club refs do join and we can have unbiased refs in Div 2 reserves as well....

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
Why not get the club referee's to do the ref's exam on line now - it is free of charge . Then they can join the division and have a chance to earn good dollar's . B-Grade game = $60.00 and running a line = $40.00 .
It would be great if we could get official ref's for all A-Grade games and B-Grade games div 1 to div 5 , both Saturday and Sunday , as well as official linesmen for Div 1 , Div 2 and Div 3 . Just give the league a call to get the ref's secretary's mob no. if you are interested in doing the course on-line .

Will believe it when I see it. (Or hear about it) April was last month.bigpond wrote:Just been advised that the league will from this weekend be sending out official refs for the reserve fixtures for Sat & Sun Prem Reserve Fixtures as well as 2 official linesmen for every A Team game.

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
We had an official ref and one official linesman in our game vs Seaford the other week.... Sun Div 3
looks like they are actually going through with it....
there wont be any club refs to moan about soon for all the cry babies out there......

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
Does this mean the ref does both games or just ressies & then line?
Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
Good that the SAASL are doing this, but have been told that the primary reason for official refs at reserve games is because a player was subject to racist abuse from a club appointed ref earlier in the season. Don't know which club, only know that it was a sat game.

So the abuse only occurs in Sat and Sun premier divisions? .If the league is going to set that as the precedent then all games should have an official ref regardless of the Division.Stevie.G wrote:Good that the SAASL are doing this, but have been told that the primary reason for official refs at reserve games is because a player was subject to racist abuse from a club appointed ref earlier in the season. Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
What about clubs who pay independent referees to come in and they are higher qualified that the A Grade refs?
Why should they have to put up with 2nd rate officials?

Not the same guy that reffed against us in the first round then ran the line for the A's???? if so he is qualified at giving the "up yours" to the away side.....God is an Englishman wrote:What about clubs who pay independent referees to come in and they are higher qualified that the A Grade refs?

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
Just a note on this,
Modbury Vista vs Para Hills East Reserves had the same referee that did Modbury Vista vs Salisbury Inter Reserves. I would like to extend my congratulations to a referee that in the two games did a more than exceptional job in both controlling the game and letting it flow in the manner it should. Often referee's get knocked no matter what decision they make, in this case I would like to thank him for his hard work and professional manner. Although I was on the losing end of both games it was not a result of his influence on the game.
Purely for reference, he is a fairly tall bloke with a balding head and an English accent.

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
We had a good ref in our ressie game aswell.
What are peoples thoughts on the C's & Reserve games being called off 10 mins before the next kick off?
I was involved in a well fought ressies game on the weekend. The game was 3-3 with about 3mins to go, both teams still had a chance to win it. The knob who Refereed the first team game came storming on the pitch and blew the whistle on the game at 2:50pm. Whilst it is a league rule surely some common sense could prevail. Our game would have finished at 2:55 at the very latest. The controlling referee was disgusted in his colleagues behaviour and both sets of players were left disapointed.

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
To me this depends on how much space is available. eg. at jets there is plenty of space for the A grade team to warm up with the game still continuing. At Hahndorf (or iggies if all teams and aussie rules are at home) then there isn't.
If there's space then let the game finish at it's natural conclusion.
