The forthcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Australia and Japan is expected to draw a television audience of half a billion people across Asia.
Football Federation Australia said the kick-off of the match in Brisbane on Tuesday 12 June was changed to 8pm after consultation with FIFA, the AFC and World Sport Group.
The amendment of the previous kick-off time of 7.30pm has been made to accommodate a potential massive viewing audience.
"This World Cup qualifier between the two top nations in Asia is already attracting huge interest around the region with two months to go to the game," FFA chief executive Ben Buckley said.
"The vagaries of time zones mean that an 8pm (AEST) kick-off better accommodates the massive TV audience in Japan in particular and makes the telecast more accessible to fans across Asia.
"Australia is part of a worldwide football family and it’s great to know that so many eyes will be on the Socceroos and Brisbane on 12 June."
The match between the first and second ranked teams in Asia will be the highlight of match day three of the World Cup's final round of Asian qualifiers and will have one of the highest viewing audiences for the round.
The last time the two teams met in the final of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup in Doha, Qatar, the viewing audience was 484 million in 80 countries across the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, North America and North Africa

Re: Socceroos to draw big TV audience.
OMG!
484 million viewers! Look at the god damn potential this region has Australian companies! Invest in HAL sides now!
This reminds me of a stat and comment about the 06 WC. As far as TV audience goes a WC match gets the same media attention viewers wise as the AFL grand final. So if Australia was to host the WC it would be like having two AFL grand finals everyday for a month! But you're AFL idiots spending $45m to get that is such a waste!
