He copped a mouthfull from the Vale Hardmen did he? lol
What the hell you on about code of conduct? It's a physical game & sometimes it gets heated the embarrassing thing is bringing it up on the forum. You won the Game Congratulations, your gonna play the Downs at least twice more this season give your balls a squeeze & square up then otherwise go cry on mummies shoulder ...

Re: EVSC hosts Playford Cup
So going after the youngest kid on the park and elbowing him in the back of the head when he was walking away is with in the players code??? Day derserved to get sent off well before he did, end of story.
Difference was we threw our elbows going for the ball
[/quote]
thats debatable that you were going for the ball when every elbow was thrown I seen at least 2 were the eyes were only on the man. my thing is why do the players need the scream and carry on to the ref " send him off, send him off, send him off " it sounds pathetic and a wee bit unsportsman like in my book...

you are entitled to your opinion vale boy........in my opinion the downs-vale games were the hardest[physically]and best games to play but we had beers together after the games and what happened out there stayed out there.....end of
Re: EVSC hosts Playford Cup
wow wee i missed out yesterday god darn it. I love how the Gardens guys come on here and say don't bring up the youngest player crap when it suits them. I remember a topic last year when there was a scuffle in the cup final about guys being tough pushing their youngest around. In saying that i agree with King Muppett that if you're playing at that level you're old enough to deal with what's dished out.
On Nathan let's be honest that as a footballer alone the guy deserves respect but it's the little things he does that don't help in gaining it. I don't know if he's angry because of his out of football habits but leave them off the pitch. He's better than that and should be expecting younger players to respect him not think he's a twat

Lets not take away from the fact it was a cracking day, great weather, cold beers and a couple of decent games. I thought Angle Vale did quite well against the peckers and if they could of finished in front of goals it would of made it quite interesting. The vale v downs games are always good to watch because no one likes to give an inch and as said before is there ever really any friendly's when these two meet, I think not. How did I go did I win the meat raffle? I bet maltese eddy won it again...Also cheers to me mate rick from angle vale always good to catch up, just next time invite jobi please....

Re: EVSC hosts Playford Cup
Firstly lets get one thing straight it wasn't me that brought up the youngest player crap.
I believe if your old enough to play Div.1 your old enough to cop what's dished out on the field, & dish it out back...
What's happened at the Vale have they got soft? You would NEVER have ever heard Hopker, Hobbs, Nicholls & Co. complaining about a stray elbow they would've just evened up the score themselves.
HARDEN THE FK UP Vale_boy05!

A stray elbow is an accident of what I understand Nathan's wasn't

Re: EVSC hosts Playford Cup
I don't think that bigger, older, more experienced players held back when Nathan Day started playing for Salisbury Inter as a 14-15 year old. That's when the bigger, older, more experienced players on your own team can step in discretely and send out a warning ( such as the scene in the movie "Goal" ).
Don't recall any of the the bigger, older, more experienced players holding back when a skinny 16-17 year old keeper started in the senior Downs team many moons ago...if only you guys could have played against "Banjo" Patterson
Everything the opposition does seems/appears deliberate when you are on the field of play.
Having said that, I never saw any elbow incident...but as soon as Nathan nutmegged a Vale player but then proceeded to kick the same players leg...he knew he was gone...didn't argue, walked off the field to get his bag and headed for the showers....unfortunately crossing the field of play to get there.
All in all, there didn't appear to be too much "over the top" stuff happening during the game.

Re: EVSC hosts Playford Cup
Firstly, let me say this. There is no place for violence of any sort in our game! No issues with tough challenges and being hard at the ball but all this cr*p about elbows behind play and square ups etc just should not be tolerated. I for one love the toughness in the games against the downs but there is a line that I believe should not be crossed. Incidents taking place behind play crosses that line. I don't care if it is someone from my club or another, it just should not be accepted.

and no one from the vale has ever crossed that line...come on man...nobody condones violent acts but sometimes in the heat of the battle shit happens......leave it on the park...dont whinge about itjogger wrote:Firstly, let me say this. Too true there Lisbon
In the old days we coped it, we dished it and never squeeled. The Downs games were always noted down and enjoyed during my time. Greaves, Hotka, S Hobbs, M Hobbs, Pyke, Chumbley, Williams all pushed the rules to the limit and accepted the consequences

Re: EVSC hosts Playford Cup
I didn't suggest they hadn't crossed the line. And my last point is that in my opinion it should not be accepted no matter which club the player represents. I 100% agree with everything staying on the park. I've got no issue with stuff happening in the heat of battle, a late challenge etc, that happens, but stuff behind play is just not on! We are all adults and we are smart enough to act like them.lisbon lion wrote:and no one from the vale has ever crossed that line...come on man...nobody condones violent acts but sometimes in the heat of the battle cabernet happens......leave it on the park...dont whinge about itjogger wrote:Firstly, let me say this. How would you like them to handle it Lisbon?
Ultimately one of the older boys probably should've squared up to Nathan when it happened but what would that achieve?

Wasn't there but it sounds like the right thing happened, elbow swung, player sent off. Nothing else said or done really matters.
