Ashes 2023

Post by MegaBonus »

Well then, which POM is telling porkies?????
Ben Stokes was asked in April what kind of pitches he was hoping to play on in the Ashes. His response was unequivocal. “We’ve been clear with the ground staff what type of wickets we want and they have been responsive,” he said. “We want flat, fast wickets.”
or
Barwell, head of sports turf and grounds at Edgbaston since 2011, will be responsible for the wicket used in the first Test and this news came as a complete surprise to him. “I was on holiday in Miami and I got sent the clip,” Barwell says.

I can 100% tell you I have never been told that. I know they want good pitches, that’s all I’ve heard, and I don’t think that’s unusual. I’ve never been asked to produce a pitch for England in all the time I’ve been here. I get asked to produce a good cricket wicket and that’s it.”

I'll be honest I don't want this thread turning into 30 pages of stupid arguments trying to prove where someone may have lied or not answered a question, etc
Let's just keep it to discussions about the actual cricket played and complaining when things don't go our way.

That said, I'm pumped for Friday evening - the Ashes in England always means more because it's such a greater challenge for us than when we flog them here every time (barring 2010-11)

At least over there its usually close. Over here it's usually over after a few tests.

I'll go Australia 3-2.

When is the next Ashes series?

England play a 5 test series against a World XI tomorrow though. That should be a good battle.

Why does anyone have to be lying? They could quite easily both be telling the truth.

Could be worse, we could have 2 foreigners in the team and 5 in the squad.

GIAE Will you be wearing your glasses to watch the match. Your vision has been found wanting recently. Perhaps sit closer to the television and keep off the grog. ;-)

I'll be doing something tonight that australians seem to be incapable of doing.

I'll be watching with both eyes open.

3 wickets in the first session is good......scoring at nearly 5 an over is good = honours even...

Honours even after 2 days - first session tonight will be very crucial.
If Aussies can establish a first innings lead that could set them up for the rest of the test.
If England get quick wickets and bowl us out early in the day, then they'll be favourites to win

Its probably been said many times by many but the end of Warner must be close. His vision is nearly as bad as GIAE's.

Earlier in the week it was suggested that there may be no play today and a kot of missed play on tuesday.

England once again getting the wickets early on and then letting the tail wag.

The south african going first ball was amazing, the serial cheater going cheaply was great as well. Just a pity that your pakistani batted well.

As you say, next session is crucial. Will this wicket deteriorate at all for australia batting last?

After the first 2 days, the biggest compliment we can give the POMs is that they're playing like Aussies....

intriguing 3 days to come...

Scenario 1 = England win and the Aussies will need to rethink tactics
Scenario 2 = Aussies win and there will be pressure on England to change tactics.
Scenario 3 = Draw...both countries to back themselves to play like they did in Test 1

who blinks first???

Playing like aussies? That would mean we'd be batting at 2 an over with fielders on the boundary from the 1st ball.

Scenario 1 won't happen. England will not change their approach based on 1 loss.

Australia has already blinked for mine. That said, it doesn't mean much if they can turn things around on that road.

I've heard that being said but in all probability, if we didn't have men on the boundary early, we could have been chasing an extra 50-70 runs.

IF Australia wins, the end justifies the means....
