A wide variety of people made up this legendary “First Fleet.” Military and government officials, along with their wives and children, led the group. Sailors, cooks, masons, and other workers hoped to establish new lives in the new colony.

So, no convicts then? Another wokey trying to change history. This country was a penal colony, plain & simple. So, what happened to the convicts after serving their " time "? Perhaps they were all sent back to England....

- firstly, in 1788 prior to Cooks arrival, this land mass consisted of '000's of indigenous nations
- from 1788-1900, we were colonies of the UK...thus not a country
- in 1901, we became a country and by then, there were no living convicts meaning when we 'started as a country', we were made up of free natives (indigenous and non indegenous) as well as migrants

Probably the only country in the world that was started by another country's jail clean out.

Re: Ashes 21/22
Incorrect.
Approximately 775 convicts were disembarked at Sydney Cove along with 645 free persons including officials, members of the ships crews and marines with their families and children

Re: Ashes 21/22
If they were guards and their families, were they really free settlers seeing as they were also forced to go?

Re: Ashes 21/22
Some inaccuracies noted above; The United Kingdom did not exist in 1788, the last convict died in 1938, 37 years after federation. As for the indigenous being free in 1901, well…….

Re: Ashes 21/22
Who mentioned the UK?
Lots of convicts still alive.
Who mentioned the indigenous population.
Maybe I've missed a post because I haven't seen this.

I'd need strong spirits over there. Trust some good European exports are available.
