No, but Qatar were terrible, and the Uzbeks dominated the match. A 2-0 win against the hosts in a tournament like this is a significant win...

And not even a full house for the host...

Embarrassing for Blatter too.

Slightly off topic - Blatter is still on about moving the Qatar World cup to January (that was never one of the original selection criteria).

Is it dawning on the FIFA fools that the EPL for example won't just have to shut down for 4 weeks, but probably 2-3 weeks before it for preparation and at least 1 week after?

That will be intolerable for the EPL, and even the other Euro Leagues which have a short 2-week Christmas shut-down.

So your saying the EPL would have to shut down for 8 weeks? Where is the link to this.

I don't think any selection criteria says the tournament has to be played in a certain month.

+1

Fifa risk a boycott by the players of the world cup if they move it January.

Leaving work for 3 weeks prep + 4 weeks tournament is out of control!

I think Qatar already have a program in place to find young talent from other countries then pay for them and their families to relocate. They will then be naturalized and eligible to play for Qatar. So by 2022 they will be far stronger

So outsides from different heritage and background? Oh how the beautiful game is disrespected in this sandbox of a country.

For anyone intersted this BBC reporter went to the game, and made some great points. A great read.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/gordonfarquh ... irewo.html
Most people seemed to drive and public transport, if there was any, wasn't much in evidence. The huge car parks around the stadium complex were rammed with four-wheel drives, spilling out fans decked in scarves and carrying flags in the maroon and white of Qatar.
Money can't buy you everything. It can get you a respected French coach, tempt an Ecuadorian and a Brazilian to take up citizenship and pull on the Qatar shirt but it can't compensate for the fact that this is a country with a small population and therefore, a limited talent pool.

The academy will clearly make the best of the human resources it has and there are some promising players but there's a mountain to climb if the hosts are to make it out of the group stage or even avoid humiliation in 2022.

I heard from an old friend who works for the Nigerian FA that a number of their juniors have already been approached about moving to Qatar in a few years if they continue to develop.

Some families have accepted and are being paid retainers and attending language classes.
The older I get the better I was.

Quoting not your strong point knight

Anyway when you said Qatar is hardly football mad, i guessed you were referring to the fact that they got the World Cup.

Well, Australia (who i presume you were hoping would win the bid [as was i]) are not a football mad country either - THAT was my point

lol, I'm no Bobbly Hat on the quoting

I agree that Australia is far from Football mad

We are however sports mad

Have over 20 million people

And Australia will sell out thier matches in 2015

A country with a population of just over 1 million

That isn't Football mad

Is fast proving a poor choice

PS Don't feed the troll

But Australia did get a full house to games when it hosted the Olympics plus the full houses for World Cup qualifiers.

The attendance for a host country holding a major tournment was poor.

And the interest was minimal. The promotion was minimal, the passion is minimal. The nail is getting stuck into footballs coffin.
