Fourth officials

Post by Bomber »

I'm convinced they were invented so coaches/managers can use them to crack up at, following poor decisions made from the middle. Its amazing that they all seem to do it. HE"S THE FOURTH OFFICIAL FFS - HE didnt make the decision!

hmm reminds me of the Omani coach  although, if the referee were to get injured, the 4th official does take over in the middle.

Who operates the substitution/lost time board in that scenario?
You cannot assault a referee. He stands between the game and chaos.

the referee can if they are not seriously injured or ill, otherwise there should be another official in the stands on standby. As you may have seen in the W-League (Lady Reds vs Perth) a few weeks ago.

Isn't that the fifth official who is meant to take over on the pitch?

When there is one the fifth official is supposed to be a reserve linesman.

spot on mate. the 5th official is not in every domestic game around the world and i dont even think in all internationals. The 4th official will generally become the referee and then if an AR is injured in some freak accident a 5th official or reserve AR is introduced...but how often does that happen? never
