Dear JIMMY
Later this morning, I am naming the squad for the important home match we're playing against Qatar on 15 October. As a football family member, I am sure you are aware of how vital this match is.
We are now into the fourth stage of qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup where we have to play eight matches - four home, four away. If we finish in the top two after the eight games (which will finish in June next year), the Qantas Socceroos will qualify for South Africa in 2010. If we finish third, we will have more games to play to decide who gets the final spot. If we do not finish in the top three, we are out altogether for another four years.
As you can see, every game counts! We got off to a very good start with a win in Tashkent against Uzbekistan last month, but I also want to ensure that every home game Australia plays is 'fortress Australia'. We must be unbeatable at home and this is why I am writing to you.
The Qantas Socceroos need your support for the match against Qatar. I know it is a Wednesday evening but we do not have another home match until April next year and it is imperative that there is a large and loud crowd there to show the boys that you are with them for every kick of the ball on the way to South Africa.
Tickets are available now from Ticketek.
I hope to see you there. In the meantime, here is the squad I am naming later today.
Best wishes
PIM VERBEEK
