I can see the problem for struggling lower division teams drawn against a Div 1 side.
And if they forfeit it means they miss out on the cup altogether.

What if 16 teams from Div 1 Sat & Sun (excluding newly promoted teams) didn't join the comp until Round 2?
It would mean the Preliminary Round would be almost a full round with few teams getting byes (might need to rename it Round 1).
Lower division teams would stand a really good chance of getting two cup games before meeting a Div 1 side.

What do you think of the idea?

cup works fine how it is, if norlunga draw downs in the b's or a's and dont see the point of having an hour to travel to get a probable spanking than they forfeit, so be it, i just hope teams realise an a's forfeit is a b's forfeit also

If teams are worried about getting a spanking they ought to forget football and go play snakes and ladders instead.

Why FK with it?[

It doesn't happen often but I actually agree with you. Now learn how to resist putting everything in bold.

I can't believe how many clubs forfeit - hopefully the SAASL fines these clubs.

We were drawn to play a Div 3/4 Saturday team a few years back, and they rang me to forfeit (we were only Div 3 Sunday at the time). He then rang me back to organise a trial game.... I said, 'why don't we just play the cup fixture?' He said, 'Oh, sorry, wrong number, I was trying to organise a game against a lower division team'.

A grade sides that forfeit cup ties should be docked league points. If you're a lower league team playing a higher division club why not go out, have a crack and you never know, or blood some fringe/reserve/ youth players. Forfeiting is weak.

I'd be very disappointed if a team from a lower division eg. gardens or downs forefeited just because they didn't want to take on a team from Saturday div 2.

Football is 3 hrs out of your day. Players citing mothers day as an excuse in my opinion is unacceptable.

I agree, fathers day as well.

Don't forget orthodox easter, my mums birthday, my cousins engagement party, the day my Nan died, Rememberance Sunday.

In fact, we had better cancel the league full stop because sundays just don't work for me!

Maybe the league should work around every public holiday to suit all the moaners.. If you can't commit to a few hours every Sunday then why bother signing on!

If mother's day is an issue it's not hard to work around it. We drew the Punjab Lions and I contacted them to ask if we could reschedule the game from Sunday to Wednesday night and they were more then happy to. The league was also accommodating in re-organizing the match officials for us.

Big thanks to Punjab Lions and we look forward to a great match tonight.

so the whole fucking league should come to a standstill.
Easter, mothers day, ramadan, whatever, I don't care, if you can't play, don't.
If there is a lot of players in the same boat, reschedule or forfeit. SIMPLES.

I wonder how many womens teams forfeit because they actually are mothers, or do they just get on with it like adults?

I find fathers day very confusing, better to play football than try and work it all out!

We haven't yet reached the level of whineing on this subject that we did a couple of years ago, but this is an excellent start so far.

Keep up the good work!
