Its all happening in both matches.
Mexico go 2-0 up then Germany immediately peg one back
2-1 in the game now.

Last 10 mins 2-1.
So many turn overs from the lads applying more pressure on defence.

Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
Mexico win 2-1 so we'll have to wait to see how the other sides go to see if we're one of the best place 3rd place sides.
It does look likely though.

So the lads have qualified for the next round. They take on Nigeria on the 28th.

It will be interesting to see which Nigeria shows up.
They smashed Chile 5-1, beat USA 2-0 then lost to Croatia 2-1.
One thing I find strange, all over social media Australian outlets are congratulating NZ for qualifying as well. But no mention of our fellow Asian nations North and South Korea making it thru. How our rival nations in Asia go in these tournaments is far more important to us then how nations from other confederations go.

Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
qualifying last in a round of 16 out of 24 isnt that impressive
especially when they go on to lose the R16 6 - 0
where are you all now?

Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
Australia is culturally and geographically united with NZ, like it or not moving confederations wont change that. Asian nations still regard Australia as outsiders.Stuckey wrote:Indeed.Knight15 wrote:From that group its an amazing resultStuckey wrote:So the lads have qualified for the next round. Sorry I knew you were hanging on my assessment!Grosso wrote:nobody gonna comment?
Stuckey?
Very disappointing result.
Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
I think it happened as expected given what we've seen over the past 7 or 8 years.
Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
What? You expected the lads to beat Argentina then lose 6-0 to Nigeria?Grosso wrote:I think it happened as expected given what we've seen over the past 7 or 8 years.

it wasnt a very good Argentina squad
Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
If that's the case would have thought you would have mentioned these unlikely results when you were bagging the kids out after the Germany game.Grosso wrote:yepStuckey wrote:What? Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
So Nigeria ended up winning the tournament. So the lads got knocked out by the winners.
IMO a pretty positive showing from the Joeys that they defeated Argentina and drew with Mexico who ended up coming 4th.

The AFF U16 Championship kicked off the other day.
The Joey's kicked off the tournament with a 1-1 draw to Myanmar.
Last night they lost 3-0 to Vietnam. Very concerning results.

concern should've been raised several years ago
you're beyond that now
old soccer has been buried and look at the results...

STIC/NTC "programs", "Development" coaches, "Systems" from certain coaching manuals are starting to tell a story. Maybe.Stuckey wrote:The AFF U16 Championship kicked off the other day.

Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
why are we judging the progress of football development in the country according to junior national results???? hasnt the last 12 or so years been the most successful at senior level???

Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
since you know what you're talking about, which country has had the greatest success at U17 World Cups?
once you've googled the answer ask yourself why this hasn't translated to senior success??
