the reason I asked was that I did not know(but if this is the case I am surprised), but had heard from 'new' players to the club that they were asked to pay $20 to trial, but they also said that they were told it was not refundable if they did not make the squad. This may or may not be the case?
Also perhaps you can advise why do they charge $20 for girls to trial?

Does anyone else know if any other clubs charge for girls or for that matter boys to trial?

pretty sure other boys clubs ask people to pay before trialling. Adelaide City boys maybe being one...

have heard of them before...each to their own anyway...if it works for cumby so be it

The info above is straight off cumby web-site.
I may be wrong, but I think that the only way someone would not have their $20 refunded is if they were selected but then declined to accept the offer. (that is how it worked last year anyway).
If girls really want to play for a club that does this then they have nothing to lose, as they will not refuse an offer to play for the club will they?
If you are not trialling at cumby then it really doesnt matter that you dont like it barbarian, and if paying a refundable $20 up-front fee puts people off then how comitted are they anyway?
Probably not the only club doing it, because I'm pretty sure they got the idea from elsewhere (may have been a boys club like bill said).

$20 fee to trial is a good idea if cumby can get away with it and not put girls off trialling or playing.
The Fee is not a good idea for U11 players perhaps playing for the first time, you do not want to put them or their parents off or give them a negative experience, but clubs should encourage younger girls to get involved and play club soccer, by welcoming them to try out not by asking them to pay to Trial.

U11 were/are not trialling.
...and no-one seemed to be having a 'negative experience', all seemed very friendly and all appeared to be enjoying themselves.
Just get over it barbarian - if we are doing such a good job of putting people off (and I dont think so with the numbers that were there) then you should be happy that they will all come running to your club instead of 'big mean cumby'
