Elizabeth Downs V Ingle Farm

The first game of the year and probably the hardest game to get for the year, Downs at Argana Park.

A's 2-1
This was a really good game to watch, tough in close but some great ball work, passing and skill kept the game open. The Downs in the first 5 minutes absolutely blitzed us. I was worried it was going to be a hammering, they had a ball cleared off the line and they pepper our 18 yard box. After 10 minutes, we got on the ball a bit more and was able to get forward to attack. Whilst the Downs had a couple of chances in the first half, we had more of the play and more of the opportunities. Just after half time, Nathan Day scored a good scrappy goal which our defenders failed to clear. Downs were right back into the match and pushed looking for the winner. After about 65 mins I think, Downs scored from another scrap. We pushed forward looking for the equaliser which opened up the game even more. Aldridge managed to keep out a few good chances we had and Morrison had one disallowed for I thought was offside but appartently it was for a push. In the end, Downs had done enough to get the 3 points.

It was an excellent game with barely any bad challenges. Downs depth this year is incredible when you consider who they had out and who they had on their bench. We were devestated to lose that game espically after such a good first half. Credit to Downs, they dug deep and got the winner. With around 8 players missing from our team from the A's & B's, we could take a lot from that. Its just one of those games you need to win if you want to win the leauge. Couldn't of been prouder of the effort by our guys.

B's 0-2
A truely great effort by the B's today. A very young side that hasn't had the best pre season and missing some regulars but they pulled together to create a result. In fairness to Downs, they had a bit more of the ball and the better of the chances but our guys executed the game plan by Shaken Not Stirred perfectly. Every time Downs had the ball we pressured them and tried to give them no time on the ball. It wasn't our they classy sort of play that we would normally play in the ressies but it was probably one of the best wins we've had since we knocked Downs out of the cup at their ground a few years ago. Downs will be very hard to beat this year with their first team depth and were a little unlucky but must give all the credit to our guys and the attitude and commitment shown yesterday.

C's 2-1
We played our best first half of the year and went in one up. We dropped off in the second and dropped off even more when Downs had a player sent off. Really disappointing game to lose but once again there were a lot of positives from some of our new players and some great efforts by our regulars.

35+ 1-5
Our boys got up for a great win over the Downs. Both teams were missing a few players but both will be better for the run to start the season proper next week.

Overall it was a disappointing day for us aside from the B's but there was a lot of positives we can take out of all the games. With a few guys to come back in the next week or so, things are still on track for a big year for us.

Cheers to Downs for a great day. They are still the benchmark in how they do things in the SAASL. Great crowd, great facilities and a lot of good banter. I would like to thank Old Redback for the Guava Vodka drinks, they went down an absoulte treat in the corporate box. The upstairs upgrade, fully staffed sounds pretty good to me. Good luck to them for the rest of the year, except when they come to Walkley Park in round 10 :D

By the way how is Div 3? If you guys have another forfeit my under 14's are always looking for a competative team :D
Someone there that was watching has a brain, thanks mate, was nothing in it. PC dived and held his face, PC every dog has his day and you mate are a dog of the lowest standard!

To Bud and his ressies coach, it was my wife sitting to the left of you, I have been told what you were saying through the game, thanks guys, Bud I broke my leg playing at Para hills for you I thought you were better than that.

Also where were all your players after the game, no one come in for a drink, prick of an act that!
Dont think alot of the boys felt like it was welcome to come in for a drink, although there were 6 to 7 of us in their as well as Bud.
you lads are always welcome to come in for a drink, what happens on the park should stay on the park, thanks to Bud and the few that did come in.. see you you at your ground
thats how it should be, good luck, see you blokes in round 10

Brahma had a player sent off early however it did not change the game too much, credit to the brahma boys who sat back and soaked up alot of pressure. If it wasn't for a mistake from a goalkick the game would have gone into the break at 0-0. Second half saw Andy O'Malley sent off for a very soft push after the ball had gone out and two players got tangled together. Vista pushed hard but couldn't find that kiler blow until another goalkeeper error allowed a miss directed cross underneath him to make it 2-0. Brahma still pushed until the final whistle and were very unlucky to concede another soft goal close to the end.

Big thanks to the Brahma boys for their hospitality and a great day. They will be a very strong side in Div 2 as they were in Div 3, good luck for the season boys.

Congratulations to the Grove for there 1st win back in the 1st Division it's unbelievable that they beat the Club that finished 2nd last year & Champions the year before by so much...

I feel a little sorry for Florina & the boys there a Proud Football Club & they would be absolutely gutted by losing 10-1. I would be interested if they finished with 11 on the park or just a explanation or reason why they lost so badly. It's going to be tough to come back from that especially with Fulham Round 2 there good, but I wish them all the best for the rest of the season...

Uncle Cracker was a little disappointed yesterday as you would expect. I think they had 11 on the park, they just got beaten by a better team on the day.

Last year we beat Southern Breakers 11-4 in Round 1 and 10-0 in Round 10. They ended up being competitive and surviving, finishing 7th or 8th from memory, and even had the league top goalscorer and player of the year.

I'm sure Florina are concerned, anyone would. What do you want them to say or me to say? No need to put the boot into them yet.

Not a good start to the season Jay but with the amount of outs from the weekend coming back into the side next week one would assume a cracking game next week??

FK UP Jay who's putting in the boot you knob read what I've written. They can't put in a performance like that, being runners up last year & champions the year before without people asking what happened. That's all I've asked what has happened?

If it was the Gardens I certainly would be asking the same question.

The point is that one or two results dont make a season.

Grove simply played them off the park, two of there lads scored hatricks.Florina weren't really ever going to threaten the Peckers.Cracker game though.

On that score spewing we didnt get them first up, not bad goal average to start the season for the peckers. dare I say relegation saving, bit early maybe. One would suspect they would only get better and a repeat of this score may not occur. Who knows them again may be the whipping boys. Interesting to here what the peckers thought or saw, couldnt believe the score when it came through yesterday. Good luck turning it around...

Opening 20 minutes of the Grove and Florina game started at a frantic pace, as would have most games being Rnd 1. Grove took the lead at the 25 minute mark, then got a couple more just before half time. Grove continued were they left off in the second half grabbing a couple of quick goals after half time to kill the game off. Yes you are right Nugget Florina are a very proud club and Jonny has been around for a long time and knows he has some work to do, but would also know that it is just round one and it is along season. Florina are a great club with plenty of resources to draw upon if things are not working out. All in all the game was played in good spirits by both sides, both teams finished the game with 11 men, and both clubs now move onto next week with tough games!
