Interesting thoughts on whether Adelaide City and or any other club should start their new teams in the lowest grade, Div 5.

I would have thought the following;

All new clubs / teams should start from the bottom grade. May seem a little unfair but isnt that the way of all leagues? You win you move up. All these new clubs or clubs which come and go why start them in a higher division let them work their way up, this way you know they will hang around more than a couple of seasons.

When West Adelaide rejoined the mens league even though they allegedly had money and good players still had to start at the bottom division.

If you look I think there are around 5 new senior teams why should any be bumped up a division? No offence but all of the other teams have had to work to get to where they are now. The strong will continue to rise the weaker or less committed will fall by the wayside, but at least in the mean time these teams won't affect the top competitions.

Have a look over the last few seasons with teams who dropped a division due to the lose of players or pulled out. For once this I believe would be a nightmare for Wendy and the FFSA. Consistancy is what is needed therefore it should be a standed rule you come into the senior competition you start in div 5 or the lowest division and work your way up. If teams want to enter another team why not start them there as well? It won't hurt. The really good teams will move on quickly.

Just a thought.

I agree with some of your points adelaidepie about new teams having to start in the lowest division, especially when the club is just starting out in the league and are more likely to have new players. But just because a club has an influx of players doesn't mean they should have to place their new team into the lowest div. In the case of AC, it's not like the club has just got a team together, these players are likely to have a fair bit of experience and ability, to put them into div 5 would be a waste of time. AC it's not a new club and so shouldn't be treated like one.

True and that is the hard part about managing teams.

I suppose it comes down to put some sort of rules in place and working with clubs to manage them. The hard part is deciding which division to place the clubs 'extra' teams.

Do you penalise a team for recuriting by putting the new team in the bottom division? and or how do you not disadvantage other teams? Fine line
