Well done on your great win Saturday PPG. You are right mate. Want to win our last 3 games, aiming for 3rd spot. Cant guarantee we will achieve that... but I can guarantee we will bust our gut trying!!! Won 4 and drawn 1 in our last 5 games. Nothing better than beating the sides above us. Adelaide Uni is no exception, although I do (as many others) think they have been the far superior side this season and a championship is well deserved. Well Done Uni!Paleon Patros Germanos wrote:We get to the pointy end of the season.
Its Uni's title to lose, its the Hawks promotion spot to lose.
Relegation battle looms large over net few weeks. Southern Breakers are officially mathematically gone and that is a shame.
Titans 20 (Comets (A), Southern Breakers (H), Uni (A))
Hahndorf 15 (USC Lion (H), Cougars (A), MA Hawks (H))
Budapest 14 (Vipers (A), Comets (H), Southern Breakers (A))
USC Lion 12 (Hahndorf (A), Vipers (H), Cougars (H))
USC Lion v Hahndorf his a huge game this week. Cougars loom as a side that could break a few hearts on the run home and Im sure there would be nothing more that 5CT would love better.

Not sure if this has been discussed previously but I thought I would attempt to list the best to worse pitches in the Sat div.2 comp since i'm stuck on the couch with the flu. I'm not currently playing but have played on all the grounds before with the exception of 1. Titans please excuse me but unfortunately I have no idea where your ground would rank as I have never played on or seen your ground. Hopefully someone else might be able to rate it.
1. Breakers - Has always been like carpet each time I've been there
2. USC Lion - Haven't played against Lion but Grange is always a pleasure to play on
3. MA Hawks - Pitch is a good size
4. Vipers - Was there a couple of weeks back. Very sandy in patches with some nice spots also
5. Cougars - Plays a little inconsistent. Grass a little long on a couple of occasions
6. Uni - The current pitch they play on can get quite hard under foot
7. Hahndorf - Quite a big slope running one way. Has been a bit sandy in the past
8. Budapest - Grass is usually too long and lines not very visable
9. Comets - Was there earlier in the year. Very small, uneven and slippery but news has it that it will be very different next year
Any other thoughts?

The report for the Hahndorf V Uni match is up. Well done to the Uni in securing promotion, both times we played them they were very good, very quick and gave us a caning.

Re: Saturday Div 2 Predictions, Results, Thoughts, Rumours
1 - Breakers - Beautiful playing surface, makes you forget the slope.
2 - Vipers - Good size, nothing particularly memorable about it (good or bad).
= - Cougars - Like a good ref. Didn't notice it.
= - Titans - Again, nothing memorable.
5 - Budapest - Played there first up this season, and it was in good nick - grass a bit clumpy.
= - USC Lion - Played on the far pitch. It rolls all over the place - but the surface had held up well. Very short.
= - Hahndorf - Big slope, but the surface has much improved. Looks smaller than it is.
8 - Uni - Not as good as our old pitch. Needs more regular TLC from the grounds staff.
9 - Comets - One half was sort, one half was firm. Shitty bounce.
Haven't played at:
MA Hawks - Was there a few years ago, and if its the same, it would come in about 3-4th

Itching for round 16 to start!
Breakers vs. Hawks - Would love hawks to slip, but doubt they will.
Vipers vs. Budapest - Vipers to finally get some form back and build for next year.
Uni vs. Cougars - Uni to stay solid, and the reserves can win the title with a win.
Comets vs. Titans - Comets trying to pin down 3rd.
Hahndorf vs. Lion - Lion in a relegation 6 pointer.

Second half of the season ladder for what its worth...
Uni 16
Cougars 13
Hawks 11
Budapest 9
Lion 8
Comets 7
Titans 7
Hahndorf 5
Vipers 4
Breakers 3
There are 2 BIG matches on this week.
Match 1: Uni v Cougars - The 2 form teams of the competition atm. If the Cougars had started the season this way then this match could of possibly been for the championship
Match 2: Hahndorf v Lion - A classic relegation battle that Lion cannot afford to lose.
I should be free this Saturday arvo and would love to go see both games. Not sure which one to pick :?

In pre season our aim was to challenge for promotion, unfortunatly we lost alot of quality players to injury, suspension and other circumstances. We have regained them in the second half of the season and the results show. Keeping in mind that we still have 3 quality players still out - Hopefully we can finish on a high and push for top spots next season. The key is hard work and above all, belief....and we believe we will do the Hawks a favour this weekend.

how would comets ground in any way assist in "playing" for a draw. We wanted the win. hawks took the lead and then lost it.9mm wrote:Hawks won’t slip this week!blackout wrote:Itching for round 16 to start!

Re: Saturday Div 2 Predictions, Results, Thoughts, Rumours
Breakers vs. Hawks - Breakers season is over so have nothing to play for, Hawks need the win to keep in touch with Uni
Vipers vs. Budapest - Vipers have fallen apart but still have some quality, Budapest desperate for any points they can get
Uni vs. Cougars - Expecting a tough game from an in form Cougars, but Uni to finish the year in style
Comets vs. Titans - Comets playing for the draw on their pitch
Hahndorf vs. Lion - Having played the two sides in the last two rounds I'd have to say Lion fairly comfortably, but both sides will be giving their all though in a match that could decide who gets relegated.

Re: Saturday Div 2 Predictions, Results, Thoughts, Rumours
Chips, why would you let two other teams play on the same pitch before the A’s game when the B’s and C’s could have played on the adjacent pitch! As it was going to be difficult to play football on anyway, it just doesn’t make sense why they would let other team’s play on it. Of course you were playing to win who plays for a draw!Chips wrote:how would comets ground in any way assist in "playing" for a draw. So you were playing for the win but a draw would have been a good result for the Comets? Can you explain why they didn’t use the adjacent pitch when playing the Hawks it just seams really odd! In recent years they have use both pitches.

if you saw the pitch before thea's and b's game was played it was water logged worse than what you experienced, after the 2 games it actually improved as the water patches were moved by players running through them. the other pitch has water patches which stop the ball al together.
so we actually tried improving the ground for you guys.

9mm you seem to be talking out of turn. Firstly, Comets were definitely looking for a win themselves as a draw would only leave them a mathematical chance of getting promoted. Secondly, as I believe it, the Comets home match ground is the one closest to Greenhill Rd. They are not required to play on the pitch beside them or any other pitch for that matter during a home game. If they have done so in the past then it has only been because they want to preserve their match pitch which is there perogative. On the flip side, if the Comets B & C grades want to play on an already muddy/water logged pitch they have every right to do so. Maybe they wanted to make it worse for the A grade which would of taken the skill out of the Hawks play since the Hawks ball movement is superior. It's called "home ground advantage".
Next time you will probably complain about the grass at Budapest being too high! Maybe they are playing for a draw

Re: Saturday Div 2 Predictions, Results, Thoughts, Rumours
I dont think any team plays for a draw. Having said that, the Comets may have signed off on a draw if on offer before the match. Regardless of what any opinion is, (in terms of, they can or cant play as many teams on an already deteriorated pitch), the point is, that logic seems to be thrown out the window. Lets face it, there is another pitch they can use for B's and C's.
The Comets rate themselves as a good ball playing team. So why jeopardise their own play as well disadvantage another team?
The fact is, although they have the ultimate decision, why make the wrong one?

I assume the pitch is not in such a bad state they we should worry about potential postponements on matchday.

Breakers vs. Hawks - Hawks with too much quality, we are hoping that they don't get a cricket score
Vipers vs. Budapest - They are desperate and they are proving hard to beat
Uni vs. Cougars - We need to win to get one hand on the championship trophy
Comets vs. Titans - It might be difficult on Comets sh*tty pitch but I am confident that Titans will prove too strong for the Comets.
Hahndorf vs. Lion - Must win for both sides, however in our last meetings Lion have impressed me more.
