STOKE SEAL KENWYNE JONES SIGNING

Stoke have tonight completed the signing of striker Kenwyne Jones in a club record £8million deal from Sunderland.

Both clubs confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the 25-year-old Trinidad & Tobago international was in talks over a move to the Potteries.

And Stoke boss Tony Pulis has managed to quickly seal the deal, with Jones - who had a short spell on loan at the Britannia Stadium in 2005 - signing a four-year deal.

The fee surpasses the previous record of £6million that Stoke paid to Middlesbrough for defender Robert Huth last summer.

Pulis said: "Kenwyne is unplayable on his day, which is why this is a fantastic signing for this football club.

"We need goals in our team and we also need strong competition among our strikers if we are to continue improving at this level.

"Kenwyne will give us that. It's no secret that I am one of his biggest admirers. He did a smashing job for us when he was here on loan. He was very young back then but I believe that he has the best years ahead of him as a top striker."

Jones cited his previous spell with the Potters, where he scored three goals in 13 appearances, as a key factor behind his decision to join the club on a permanent basis.

"The fact that I know the manager, some of the players and the place so well has obviously been an influence upon me coming here," he said.

"This is an exciting new chapter in my career and I want to do my best for a club that has clearly had great success since I was last here.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of helping Stoke build upon the progress they have made over the past two years in the Premier League."

Jones, who could make his debut against Wolves on Saturday, left the Caribbean in 2004 to try his luck in England and joined Southampton after a successful trial.

Loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke followed and his performances for Saints in the 2006/07 season persuaded Sunderland to part with £6million for his services.

The tall striker swiftly became a favourite at the Stadium of Light, scoring 20 goals over his first two seasons, but last term, although he contributed nine goals, Jones found himself in and out of the side.

Darren Bent stole the show up front, netting 25 times, and Black Cats boss Steve Bruce revealed today that frustration with Jones' inconsistency persuaded him to accept Stoke's offer.

He told the Sunderland Echo: "There has always been a frustration with me, and I think with supporters who have watched Kenwyne, that you see an abundance of talent but it has not come out often enough for us for whatever reason.

"In management you get paid to make some important decisions sometimes. Stoke have been badgering me for a year. Everyone knows they love a big, traditional centre-forward and he might go and suit them.

"Towards the end with Kenwyne, things were not working out so I have accepted Stoke's offer."

Pulis has been biding his time in the transfer marker this summer, with youngster Florent Cuvelier and keeper Carlo Nash the only players to arrive at the Britannia Stadium before today.

A forward has been a priority and the Potters boss reached a verbal agreement with French club Nice over a fee for Loic Remy but, with other clubs interested, that deal appeared to have stalled.

Three of Stoke's current forwards - Dave Kitson, James Beattie and Tuncay Sanli - have all been linked with moves away in the last few weeks and speculation about their futures will now increase.

Chief executive Tony Scholes hailed Jones' capture as a statement of intent from Stoke, who have finished 12th and 11th in their two seasons in the Barclays Premier League.

He said: "Breaking our transfer record once again - the fourth instance in two and a half years - is a measure of the club's ambitions as we look to continue moving forward and build upon our success under Tony Pulis.

"Kenwyne has been on Tony's wish list for some time and we are delighted to sign a striker who many of the country's top defenders consider to be a real handful on his day. This is an exciting acquisition for the club."

Jones, who scored 28 goals in 101 appearances for Sunderland in total, is the latest player to leave the Black Cats for Stoke, following in the footsteps of Dean Whitehead, Danny Collins, Danny Higginbotham, Rory Delap, Thomas Sorensen and Liam Lawrence.
FUCK!
that is all. :|

Ricardo Carvalho seals move from Chelsea to Real Madrid

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Portugal centre-back Ricardo Carvalho from Chelsea in a £6.7m deal.

The 32-year-old has passed a medical and will be presented to the media at a news conference on Thursday.

Carvalho will be reunited with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who took over at the Spanish giants in May.

The defender, who was also with Mourinho at Porto, joined Chelsea in 2004 for £19.8m and won the Premier League three times with the club.

A Chelsea statement earlier in the week said: "Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career."

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Carvalho - who won the Champions League with Porto back in 2004 - also won the FA Cup three times, the League Cup twice and the Community Shield twice.

He becomes Real's fifth signing of the summer, following Argentine Angel di Maria, Spanish duo Pedro Leon and Sergio Canales and Germany World Cup star Sami Khedira.

A statement on the Spanish club's website began: "Best known for his perfect positioning, his foresight and his ability to advance the ball out of the first third, Ricardo Alberto Silveira Carvalho joins Real Madrid at the age of 32 and with 19 titles to speak of."

Last month, Carvalho told a Spanish newspaper it would be a dream come true to join Mourinho at the Bernabeu.

"If there was a possibility to sign with Real Madrid, I would go there right now swimming or running," he said.

"It would be a dream to be able to play for Madrid, which I consider to be the best club in the world, and follow the orders of the best coach in the history of football.

"With Mourinho I experienced two marvellous stages at Porto and Chelsea. To have the opportunity to win another Champions League with him at Real Madrid would be tremendous."

Carvalho played more than 200 games for Chelsea, scoring 11 goals.

He is the fifth player to leave the Stamford Bridge club this summer after Joe Cole, Michael Ballack, Juliano Belletti and Deco.

Ancelotti hails Ramires as 'the future of Chelsea'

By Mark Fleming
The Independent Saturday, 14 August 2010

Ramires has joined the champions for £18.3m. 'Brazilian but also European...very dynamic, he is a runner,' said Carlo Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti spoke yesterday of his plans to build a dynasty at Chelsea, with the club enjoying a period of extended domination of English football.

Crossroads, though, might appear a more appropriate soap opera to describe the champions right now, with five senior players having left the club, who have lost four games in a row in pre-season.

The Double winners have seen the defender Ricardo Carvalho this week follow Joe Cole, Michael Ballack, Juliano Belletti and Deco out of Stamford Bridge. In their place, only two have been recruited: Yossi Benayoun from Liverpool and Ramires from Benfica, whose £18.3m move was finalised yesterday.

The other gaps in the squad are to be filled by members of the FA Youth Cup winning team, although the Santos striker Neymar remains a target, despite the Brazilian club's threats about reporting Chelsea to Fifa.

As the champions prepared to begin their Premier League title defence today at home to newly promoted West Bromwich Albion, their manager acknowledged that the loss of so many senior players might appear to outside observers to have weakened his squad individually. But he declared his goal to be making Chelsea stronger collectively, while rejuvenating the squad from within. "Our aim is to be stronger as a team, as a group, and to put individual skills together to be better than last year," he said.

The arrival of Ramires will provide some cover in midfield, an area where Chelsea lost four players during the close season. Ancelotti said: "He is a fantastic player. He is a fantastic midfielder. He will be the future of the Brazilian national team and I hope he will be the future of Chelsea.

"He is Brazilian but he is a European player. He is very dynamic, he moves up and down on the pitch. He can play in all the midfield positions and he is very young. He played the last game [for Brazil] as a defensive midfielder. At Benfica he played as a right midfielder. He is a complete player. As I said, he is not Brazilian 100 per cent. Because usually a Brazilian doesn't like to run, he likes to play football. He is a runner."

As the £18.3m man comes, so Carvalho departs in a £6.6m move to be reunited with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid. Ancelotti revealed that the Portugal defender asked for a move on the last day of last season, and said he is not looking to buy a replacement such as Benfica's David Luiz.

"We have in our academy a fantastic centre-back and we want to give him more possibility to play. That is Jeffrey Bruma," he said.

Despite the changes at Chelsea, the core remains solid in John Terry, Frank Lampard (who may miss today's game with an ankle injury), Didier Drogba and Petr Cech. Ancelotti predicted this season will be harder than the last one, but also said his relationship with the players will have improved.

"We have less doubt compared to the start of last year because I have a better relationship with my players and my club," he said. "They know me and I know them. For this reason I think we can improve ... we have the opportunity to open a cycle. We know the other teams will work harder to beat us but we are ready to fight. We need to have more power than last year because the other teams are improving quickly. I don't know how long it could be, this cycle."

My gut tells me it will be a hard season, but I like what CA says. It will take a little longer but I'm sure the future if the EPL will be BLUE with both ourselves and Man City dominating the scene.

Tottenham on verge of completing William Galla$ signing

Tottenham are on the verge of signing former Arsenal and Chelsea defender William Gallas on a free transfer, BBC Sport understands.
The 32-year-old France international is due to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of signing a one-year deal.
Although some details of the deal are not yet finalised, Gallas has agreed to take a wage cut to join Spurs.
Gallas will be Harry Redknapp's second signing of the summer following the capture of Brazilian Sandro.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder will arrive on Friday after helping Internacional to the Copa Libertadores title against Mexico's Chivas Gudalajara on Wednesday.

A £7m deal for Sandro was agreed back in March but the player - who has been learning English since then - was allowed to stay with Internacional for as long as the club were in the Copa Libertadores.
"It was the farewell of my dreams," he said after lifting the trophy on Wednesday. "I dreamed of being champion and leaving with this trophy in my luggage."
While he may have to wait for his Premier League bow as he gets used to life in England, there will be no such worries for Gallas, who left Arsenal this summer after rejecting their offer of a pay cut and shortened deal.
Manager Redknapp is unworried by the defender's connections to either Arsenal and Chelsea. Gallas spent four years at the Gunnares, having spent five years at Stamford Bridge before that.

"He's been an Arsenal player but he was at Chelsea before that and playing abroad before he arrived there," Redknapp said last week.
"It's not like we would be signing Tony Adams. Gallas is a good player and he would be a very useful addition to our squad."
With Jonathan Woodgate still out with a long-term groin injury and captain Ledley King plagued by knee problems that limit his playing time, Redknapp has been keen to bolster his defensive resources.
Gallas will also provide competition to the likes of centre-backs Michael Dawson, Sebastien Bassong and Younes Kaboul.
The Frenchman will not be signed in time to face Stoke in the Premier League on Saturday but could be in contention to face Young Boys when Spurs host the Swiss side in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.

Jose: No chance of picking up pair
Tuesday 24th August 2010 8:04

Adebayor and Drogba: Unlikely to join Real

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho believes he has 'no chance' of signing Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City or Didier Drogba from Chelsea.

The former Inter Milan and Chelsea manager has been linked with a number of high-profile names since taking the helm at the Bernabeu earlier this year, including star striker Adebayor, who was an unused substitute in Monday's 3-0 league victory over Liverpool.

However, speaking exclusively to Sky Sports News HD, the Portuguese boss admitted City's powerful financial position would make it near impossible to prise the 26-year-old away from Eastlands.

When asked about the possibility of signing the Togolese forward, Mourinho said: "I think no chance.

"The historical dimension of Real Madrid and Manchester City you can't compare. But the economical dimension you can compare.

"And maybe they will win (the Premier League).

"So I think at the minute Man City is the club to keep their best players and to buy the players that nobody expects them to buy.

"I don't think, just one year after buying Emmanuel from Arsenal, he's the player to leave."

Chelsea ace Didier Drogba is another striking star to be linked with a move to the Primera Liga giants, but Mourinho believes acquiring his signature is an equally unlikely prospect, adding: "Again, no chance."

Raul signed for Shalke at least a fortnight ago.

Lucarelli has moved to Napoli - exciting young talent

Sosa from Bayern to Napoli is apparently a done deal - not the quality we need in the middle, hopefully proves me wrong. Inler would have been ideal but we should have never of sold Cigarini in the first place.

Seriously, though.... Yeah, midfield needs to be sured up but not out wide. A defensive midfielder with a bit of mungrel would be nice.
