I agree with both of Mr Fink’s assertions that our forward line is our weak point and that our coaching arrangement requires change.
Firstly Aloisi proved he is only ever useful as an impact player from the bench and is kidding himself if he believes he should be playing in europes top leagues. He is in Second division in Spain and most of the teams he plays for get relegated. (Osasuna had a great season last year after he left!). Archie has also shown the A-League is his limit. Scott Mcdonald needs to drop about 5-10kgs, leave Scotland, and has not impressed as yet. Hopefully this David Williams comes along at Brondby, but I feel Viduka and Kennedy will be our main striking options for the foreseeable future and current world cup campaign. This also means that the lone target man system is likely to stay, which allows us to play to our strengths - midfield. I would like to see us adopt 3 at the back though as three central defenders protected by Grella should provide adequate defensive cover and allow an attacking 3-1-3-2-1 (3-4-3) formation to support the lone striker. Best 11 (with all players fit/available) in my opinion would be:
Schwarzer
Neill Moore Beauchamp/Milicevic
Grella
Culina Bresciano Skoko
Cahill Kewell
Viduka
Secondly, Arnold needs to return to his assistant duties and continue to be the link between players and the new manager. Australia needs Frank Lowy to release the purse strings and take advantage of the current wave. I propose (like many others) that a technical director be appointed in addition to a new manager. The technical director should be a long term appointment based on how we want Australian football to be played. The best candidate has to be the Argentina Coach (no longer) Jose Pekerman. Argentina played arguably the best football at the WC and before taking the main job Pekerman spent all his previous time coaching Argentina; youth teams. Good football (South American flair combined with Australian industry) and won’t cost too much. As for the new manager, it must be someone who can get results as this is all the matters on the International Stage. The perfect appointment would be Ottmar Hitzfeld, the only manager to win the Champions League with more than one team (Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund) and has had success with every team he has managed. Furthermore the great man has just had 2 years rest and is not attached to any position. I’m sure Frank could convince him to take on the less demanding (than Club Football) Australian managers position and reward him handsomely for the privilege.

i like him.
it's not as if we've reverted to 'boring' play since Hiddink has left us. let's see how he goes in the Asia cup before getting knives out.

You've made some good points Admin.
But I'd like to see your choices as National Director of Football reorganising our whole set-up from the bottom up - starting with the coaching system.
There needs to be a massive change to the way we recruit coaches and one way of doing that is to encourage all senior players to undertake coaching courses in the off-season.

I dont want to take credit for somethign I did not write.
Agree with you vagrant- putting Arnold in as permanent coach is not the way to go. He has nowhere near the experience at the top level as a coach- he has hardly coached at a-league level. We are still a developing country in football terms and need another experienced european coach to continue our development.
Admin also strongly disagree with your opinion of John Aloisi. Aloisi scores goals, viduka doesnt. Start aloisi regularly and he will do a much better job than viduka in my opinion.

What coach changes formations 3 times in one half?
Australia created barely 5 scoring chances.
Bresciano's goal (great eraction goal that it was) came from a mistake.
Arnold & Kosmina do not know what they're doing
I agree with you Rob, we didn't create much and gave to many shooting chances away at the back.
they werent admins opinions, read the posts carefully.Ga Pala wrote:Agree with you vagrant- putting Arnold in as permanent coach is not the way to go. NFI Arnold along with the FIGJAM Koz man ("Koz I said so") will send our game back to the Farina dark ages. They have NFI when it comes to tactics. Faced against a weak opposition, they had NFI how to break down the defence - how many shots at goal? The socceroos made Bahrain look good!

viduka would have scored last night. aloisi has been fortunate enough to plays in marks absence, usually games against lower ranked opposition. i make an exception for johns goal in the wc.Ga Pala wrote: Admin also strongly disagree with your opinion of John Aloisi. imo you cant blame the coach for this average performance, the socceroos made simple errors, simple passing, shooting etc which had nothing to do with arnold, these players are proffessionals and should be able to find a target from twenty yards.
i wouldnt expect to see these guys make the same errors for thier clubs.

For the socceroos, I would go for Ottmar Hitzfeld... brillant tactician, won everything with Bayern Munich and would suit Australia's style as he is similiar vain to Hiddink...
For the Olyroos, has to be someone local, may Arnold coudl takeover that as well as being assistant to Ottmar, then he could report back directly on the youngsters as well as staying involved in management...
