Ingle Farm ( 4 ) Southern Knights ( 3 ) ....after extra time

Link to all Ingle Farm v Southern Knights photos

There’s already been a bit of discussion about this game so far but here goes.
Southern Knights piled onto their mini bus and travelled 50 kilometres North to meet Ingle Farm in the Quarter Finals of the SAASL Challenge Cup.
Farm were still hurting from the previous weeks loss to USC Lion and Knights were likewise hurting from their loss to ISC Raptors.
Watching the Reserve game before hand it seemed that both sides would need to be wary of the high but uneven bounce.
Knights as they often do, started out at a rapid pace and found themselves leading 0-1 after ~5 minutes when Steven Hawkins latched on to the
ball from 25 metres out and the ball evaded the outstretched Robbie Greenwood.
Sandy Neary made his presence known early back at his old stomping ground closely watched by Dave Eggars.
Ingle Farm managed to slot the ball into Knights net despite the linesman’s flag being raised instantly,
eventually the linesman was spotted by referee John McDermott and the goal disallowed.
Knights could have stretched their lead but Farm managed to draw level from a well taken goal courtesy of Paul Jones.
A lapse in concentration and understanding in Farms defence was capitalized on by Knights and they regained the lead 1-2.
The game ebbed from end to end and eventually Scott Bradley headed Knights to a 1-3 lead which they maintained until the break.
After the break Ingle Farm began to assert themselves on the game and were able to pull back the scoreline to 2-3.
Knights unfortunately lost key defender Steve MacGuire to a straight red card following a minor tussle over the ball after it had gone out of play.
Knights also lost tenacious forwards Tony Micallef to a reoccurring, niggling injury and Matt Daughtry to illness.
Farm took full advantage of the changing circumstances enabling Chris Ennis more freedom and enabling them to control much of the game.
Sandy Neary continued to cause Farm some headaches but they were able to close down Knights with numbers.
Knights held on to their slim lead until the 85th. minute through some excellent work from keeper Mark Kay and defenders Matt Harrison,
Lee White, Steve Hawkins and Lyndon Parry. Eventually Farm levelled the game at 3-3 to take the game into extra time.
Knights struggled on and lost in form defender Lee White to injury.
As would be expected Farm struck through a strong, forceful header from mainstay Chris Ennis.
Farm had several opportunities to further their lead but either squandered their opportunities or brought the best out of Mark Kay.
Despite their situation Knights had a few chances to level the ledger but lacked numbers to finish off their attacking forays.
Well done to Ingle Farm for their win but equally well done to the Southern Knights boys who fought all day.

Southern Knights maintained the pressure on Ingle Farm in the opening stages.

A gutsy effort from Robbie Greenwood denies Matt Daughtry the chance to put Knights further ahead.

Dave Eggars had some good touches and worked hard for Farm throughout the first half.

Sandy Neary shares a laugh with his Farm tagger as Dave Eggars looks on in admiration :D

Both sets of supporters gave as good as they got....but gee, that green is a dour colour !

Image Image
Farm breathe another sigh of relief as Knights go close....whilst Matty Harrison earns a yellow for a strong but misjudged tackle.

Steve Hawkins (4) looks on as Tony Micallef still proves a handful to those many years his junior.

Lyndon Parry and Matt Daughtry look on as Paul Jones strikes the ball well to put Farm back on level terms, despite the efforts of Steve Hawkins.

Farm celebrate Paul Jones excellent strike.....1-1.

Farm drag a goal back at around the 55th. minute.....2-3.

Image Image
Mark Kay punches an Ingle Farm attack clear whilst Dave Eggars, closely guarded by Sandy Neary shields the ball.

Image Image
Despite Farms improved work rate and numerical advantage, Tony Micallef was still causing their defenders some concerns.

Image
A deceptively close chance for Knights.

Image Image
Despite some observers suggestions the traffic was not all one way as both goals came under threat.

Image
Knights coach Jeff Ellis ponders his options with mounting injuries.

Image
Escuse the blurred image (it was quite overcast)...Farm celebrate equalising with about 5 minutes to go.

Image Image
Re-grouping for extra time.

Image Image
A steady stream of pressure was applied to Knights in the first part of extra time.

Image
Once again I apologise for the blurred image....Chris Ennis powers his way past 4 Knights defenders to head Farm into the lead for the first time in the game....4-3.

Image Image
Image Image
Chances go begging for Farm combined with some excellent keeping from Mark Kay.

A few exhausted Knights players look on as Farm wind down the clock.

All the lads at Knights actually pay match fees to play....
The club has good, loyal sponsors but don't have their own bar or canteen to generate extra finances.

In Perth we would pay $2-3 on matchday to go towards the referees fees irrespective of whether we were home or away but here we pay our registration fees up front but nothing on matchday. I spend a bit on the bbq though.
Does Kevin Rudd refer to his genitals as the stimulus package?

I think everyone appreciates Swannys great work he does on this forum. The amount of work he does about the amateur league, Elizabeth Downs and Southern Knights is a credit to him as a volunteer. I for one always have a look at his photos and review of a game, they are very well done.

Yes his match reports are unbiased.. And I thought the IF vs SK review was of equal quality.

I know we disagreed on a few things on that match, that's the way it goes, well if we agreed on everything life would be boring I guess..

Hope to see more of your good work in the future swanny, coz you do a great job and many people appreciate it..

Joke? The only jokes were the ones hurled from the spectators on the hill while the player was dragging his feet past.

not nearly as funny as winning the game. kicking the poor innocent soul (who happened to throw an elbow at one of our players) while He was down was just one of lifes beautiful bonuses swanny. Ps. Do you still swear to all the gods that the wind changed and He really meant to bend over and tie his shoe laces and by some freak act, his elbow made contact square on his chin. :$im sure there is some sort meetings you knights boys can go to ta get over all this.you dont want it affecting your chances for promotion.

My god you are so funny kinghenrik !
If that is one of lifes bonuses for you then I wish you well in life (hopefully there is some merit in the adage "what goes around comes around."
Also, how can you taint the name of someone held in such high esteem at your beloved Celtic with such banal commentary.
To set the record straight with you, I, and others from Southern Knights, have never denied there was contact made to the said Ingle Farm players chin. I also commented that to his credit he never made a meal of it (unlike those standing on the sidelines wearing their supporters jackets or pretending to be Celtic gods).
What I have said is that two players were tussling over a ball out of play, one holding the ball trying to slow things down and the other trying to grab the ball from him to hurry things up. In that tussle the Ingle Farm player received a brush on the chin or cheek from the Knights player.
Because of the good spirit the game was being played in at the time, the appointed referee could have dealt with the incident in a less harsh way (if he so chose) such as a yellow caution. He was within his rights to issue a red if he considered the incident "serious foul play", that is the only area I am is disagreement with the referee's decision.
Now that decision not only affected that Cup tie, but it will affect 3 very important league games for Southern Knights who are still hovering in the relegation zone.
A good reward for a bunch of guys who pay to play each week and push a SAASL Premier division team all the way in a Quarter final.

who is pretending :?: :D
i agree that 3 games is ridiculous but it appears that we will have to agree to disagree as nothing will change my opinion on the foul committed as it was blatant and intentional and the knights players put himself and the club in this current predicament with said brain fade.let me ask you this swanny, had the roles been reversed and this had occurred at your ground in front of the knights faithful, would they not have also appealed for early showers? you are correct swanny what goes around certainly did come around.

I have no involvement with either club involved here but there is no way the farm player should have been sent off and the knights bloke deserved the red but not 3 weeks. Contact was minimal.

In my opinion, knights would have held on had they kept all 11 on the park

Kudos to the SAASL for reducing the Knights players suspension from 3 games to only the 1 game which he has already served.
Kudos also to the Farm representative(s) for their fair accounts of the incident at the appeal earlier tonight.
