Tea Tree Gully ( 1 ) Southern Knights ( 1 ) (D.Mooney)
Tea Tree Gully might have been relieved to walk away with a point in a solid battle with Southern Knights.
In the opening half Knights looked to have the upper hand, stringing together many good passes and challenging strongly for every ball. After a series of chances going begging for Knights, Gully earnt themselves a penalty. Knights keeper initially save the ensuing penalty kick but Gully pounced on the parried ball to slot home the opening goal of the game and went to the half time break leading 1-0.
Gully came out much stronger in the second half which saw them match Knights more evenly around the park and they did have several opportunities to stretch their lead. Having said that, Knights too failed to capitalise on several opportunities.
The Knights equaliser resulted from a good build up on the right flank that was well slotted home.
A hard fought game with some strong challenges that could have been high scoring encounter, but for some good goalkeeping and some missed opportunities from both sides.
