Hearts keeper Gordon voted SPL Player of the Year
GLASGOW, April 16 (Reuters) - Hearts and Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon has been voted Player of the Year by the Scottish Football Writers' Association.
The 22-year-old is the first Hearts player to win the trophy since Sandy Jardine 20 years ago. Gordon is also the first player outside Rangers and Celtic to collect the award since 1991 when Dundee United's Maurice Malpas triumphed.
Gordon told reporters: 'There are obviously not too many goalkeepers that have won it and not too many Hearts players, so on both these counts it's a very big honour for me and the club.'
Former Rangers player Andy Goram is the last goalkeeper to win the prize in 1993.
Hearts beat Kilmarnock 2-0 on Saturday to strengthen their grip on the second Champions League place.

Zlatan, sick of seeing Rangers in at the expense of others, meaning what. All teams have to earn the right to play in Europe each season by winning the league or being correctly placed to earn the place. So if a team doesnt get enough points they dont qualify, Rangers dont get in at the expense of anyone they earn their place.
ummm...no.BillShankly wrote:best keeper in the spl!
played great all season, massive future ahead of him. he will lead us well into europe next season
Artur Boruc is best keeper in SPL by a mile - will move to EPL shortly and be the best there within 3 years. World class. Of course strachan's decision to leave him on the bench at the start of the Champs League cost cletic...since then they've had nothing but success.

i think the unfortunate thing for Celtic supporters was that they didn't know just how good Artur actually was/is before he came to Celtic, and that was pressure that strachan faced and that marshall at the time was a safe bet etc...
if marshall didn't work out then he could give boruc a run no worries, but if he put boruc in first up and he messed up then he would be in the shit...it's what separates the good from the best as a manager, knowing when to say f@ck the fans and their expectations.

no mate, I actually spent a month at legia warsaw as Artur's training partner in 2003/04 preseason.BillShankly wrote:oh dear a couple of deluded celtic fans

quality keeper, and can say that the legia gk coach is pure class, and artur was spot on when he said that british gk coaches are long way behind.

you're not going to drop the clubs most popular and best player because of his comments. artur is very dry in terms of his sense of humor, strachan knows this. the only comment he made that could have had in hot water was criticising the the gk coach, but knowing him it was more a case of him talking Dohwan up rather than ragging on the celtic gk coachBillShankly wrote:he was very outspoken bout the coaches, im surprised it didnt cost him his spot in the team for comments like that

the celtic fans sing about him all the time during games, trust me, they love him! out of the celtic squad, Boruc is realistically the only player that will move on to a world class club in a world class league, i would say that's what set's him apart from his team mates.BillShankly wrote:true...dont know about most popular and best player though, although its obvious you respect artur quite a bit.
players like nakamura, lennon, keane, petrov etc could vie for either one or both of either best or most popular
keane has had a fantastic career...but it's winding up quickly.
Artur looked after me while I was at legia and although he is cheeky, he is a top guy, and an incredible keeper to work with

buffon is ok - but typical of Italian players is over-rated. had 1 or 2 great years then had a shocking season last year, and injured most of this year. of all the italian keepers I really liked perruzi and abbiati - abbiati definitely under-rated.
perhaps there is a lack of quality young keepers coming through internationally. kahn, dudek, toldo, seaman, schmeichel, bosnich all left/leaving the game or past it, but no real influx of truly great keepers. when you talk about them in their prime as compared to buffon you'd take those guys any day and yet now he is supposed to be the world's undisputed #1.
cech is alright, boruc will be top 3 keeper in next 2-3 years, but needs bigger league status platform than the SPL, even though celtic is a massive club

i think the question should be, why are people talking on this topic over two years after it last finished up -Bodø Glimt wrote:Why is this in the SA forum?
In any event I believe that Boruc did [prove me right in saying that he was one of the world's best keepers - only have to view his champions league performances for Celtic for that -
Has to be said though that his form of late has been shite, and he desperately needs to leave the SPL and go to a Man Utd
esq club. too small for him is the SPL - highest paid player in the SPL too might I add.

It's since been moved. Yeah, I wondered why it was dug up today as well.

What a great keeper
nah - he's been playing like shite for a while now - he should have left in the summer - he's on a base of £40k a week - he's become lazy and complacent, just like Dudek did - could have been anything but took the money. should have moved to Milan -
