Firstly a brief pictorial summary of the game.....
Seriously, both Elizabeth Vale and Adelaide Wanderers started the Champion of Champions game fairly evenly but looked fairly jaded after both completing long and successful seasons.
A much larger number of spectators may have lifted the atmosphere of the game but unfortunately the fixture was poorly attended.
Despite the quiet atmosphere, neither team seemed to be holding back with their early on ball challenges.
Elizabeth Vale drew first blood taking a 1-0 lead, somewhat against the run of play, but that is the Vales trademark.
It wasn't long before a good build up and a strong challenge inside the penalty area saw Wanderers level the game at 1-1.
In a blink of an eye Vale found themselves 1-3 down and down to first 10 men and then down to 9 men.
After half time Elizabeth Vale managed to make it 2-3 with a typical Chris Nicholls goal in a crowded goal mouth.
From then on the 2 man deficit had Vale chasing Wanderers shadows and eventually Wanderers went 2-4 up from the penalty spot.
The strong challenges kept coming (from both sides) but Wanderers finished off the Vale converting a second penalty and then neatly chipping Andy Kokot in the Vales goal.
Stand out for the day would have been Wanderers captain Joseph Tasovac who covered a lot of ground, challenged strongly and distributed well throughout the game.
Congratulations to Wanderers on a successful season in 2008 and they now have 12 months of bragging rights !
Wanderers keeper seemed to have a good command of his area !
Chris Nicholls was on top of Joseph Tasovac very early !
The spectator numbers were quite disappointing !
