The keeper, Joe Pirrie was in the 1964 GMH team I posted earlier.
I remember watching a few Thistle games sometime between 1969-1972 over in the Elizabeth West area (Barnesy + Swannee country !)

Specifically looking for a J. Peel
I think somewhere there is a picture of a J. Peel somewhere.
Did he play for the Grove as well ?
I know Phillip Peel who had an Uncle called J.Peel who played football in the 70's.
Don't think he played for the Grove. I do know he played for another northern club, but can't recall the name...
The name Phillip Peel doesn't ring any bells either... so he might be related to some other J. Peel. I'm after Jon Peel.

J.Peel is in the Elizabeth Grove 1975 Team photo below, bottom right hand corner.
Joe Pirri, goalkeeper in the Elizabeth Thistle photo, played for Don in the Federation 2nd division in 1968.
Jeff McGall, in the same photo, played for my school... he was playing with 17 year olds in the senior team when he was only 14, so was quite a promising player....

Where are they now ?
Won div1 league with Cumberland 2000, Richard Preston was assistant coach then coached Cumberland 2 years later, although getting older still had good touch, very good striker in his day. Those old vale shirts were great

Fred Godley, along with the Powell boys, Johnny Sales, etc all learned their trade in the late 60's/early 70's at Salisbury Utd. Fred was a fab bloke and played with his heart (and occasionally a hangover!)
Glyn Ford played for Elizabeth City I think and Alex Rogers was a pretty usefull keeper also.
I remember playing against them a few times in Division 2.
Yeah, First Team Regular. Played at Salis Utd with these lads only I was just a junior then a reserve player in those days. As you may know, I too played at the Grove for a season but not until mid 80's when my Inter days were over. By the way, how's things at Inter at present - nearly have the League 2 wrapped up already, eh?
[How about Man C new manager then? Does he have better credentials than Sven? Makes you wonder, don't it?]
I have a fair few old photo's so will try to dig them out and load them on here and other relevant sites.
Next task for me, several years off? Coaching at Broadbeach Utd (if they will have me).

and used to have a go at me for going out on friday nights!
Great memory, FTR (as if it'd be in question!) Yes, 1978 only and with Micky Burfoot, Ray Halford, Richie Orr, Kenny Craig, etc. (PS hope you didn't forget my loan year at Port Pirie Savoy in early 70's............). This refreshes my old memory too! Sometimes I feel more travelled than Billy Banjo Patterson was!

I played against Banjo a few times he was a "hard" man. Last time he was playing for Salisbury East .
1978 was one of the strongest Division 1's I have played in and the Downs had a pretty strong side but only came 4th.
Lost a lot of players and a coach (Roy Ainscough) in 1979 over beer money !
