charity cup

Post by barbarian »

does anyone know, if the forcast temperature for sat/sun is over 33 degrees (which long term forcast appear to indicate that it will) will the charity cup game be cancelled/postponed or played after 5 pm, before 11 pm, in line with sawsa regulations or will it go ahead as scheduled??

nah i doubt they'll cancel it. Last year it was played in pretty warm conditions and the players had drinks breaks midway through each half. If they were to change the times they would prob change to like 4 or 5pm

Just a guess though

I heard that if the temperature is hot then the game may get pushed back to a slightly later time but it will be played.

when I was involved in the game it was all about the wet bulb test. Yep the WBT. This was the conclusive scientifc test that provied it was too hot to play a game in the heat of the day. excellent I thought there was a test that could justify cancelling a game. Or at the very least delay it.

Only problem is that the clowns entrusted to manage games at club and federation level, did not have the intelligence to say..."too hot (frickin obvious by just standing out there) game will not go ahead.? So guess what? Games went ahead.

It's not like we've not seen the hot weather come. we're in the midst of a record breakimg heat wave.

My guess. Nothing will come of it. There will be plenty of emails. Internet searching on policies on hot weather games but when there is a decision to be made. THERE WILL BE NO DECISION.

As I said earlier. I have never seen a game cancelled because of WBT result. There are many reasons to play it however the most important reason to reschedule or cancel a game is clear. PLAYER SAFETY.

Get cracking today peoples and reschedule to 7pm. The charity match before is a laugh fest and it doesn't matter however the main game should not be compromised.

sawsa do have a hot weather policy (over 33 ) game to be played to end before 11.00am or played after 5.00pm.
We shall see if they enforce their own policy, as playing in 38/39 degrees is very dangerous. If one of the girls dehydrates or calapses due to the heat will sawsa take the responsibility??

Read in today's paper that the FFSA has postponed a number of games schedule for this weekend and to be played at a later date.

Sensible!

Postpone to the week after I say. A change is immenent!

And then the season commences the following weekend, so not too many options. I agree with gubs though Easter weekend is not a good idea as many people go away.

I dont see the harm in changing the times until later in the arvo or early evening and adding some drinks breaks midway through each half

If you have read thsi morning's Advertiser, a number of "Mens" games this weekend have been postponed to "a date to be confirmed".

What about a week night? We are all adults? Next Tues/Wed/Thurs ??

It would be negligent to allow the game to go ahead in those conditions. We are talking amateur players who have to go to work or school. Not high paid professionals. Don't get me wrong, its a great idea and I will support it 100% however, we will not see the best game possible.

we have know about the heat wave for over a week now. why is there no official word out from the FFSA? (I haven't checked the website)

Sad Gal: we're still run by SAWSA so checking the FFSA website for an update on how the weather will affect a SAWSA event is not going to yield you good returns on the information you are seeking.

For the record not all of the men's games have been postponed this weekend, as many as possible are still being played after 5pm, where ever the home teams have adequate lighting the reserves and seniors games are going ahead in all 3 leagues.

Where is the charity cup being held though. I know last year it was Marden, is it the same again this year??

The point re ground availability is a good one. Most of the facilities we might use belong to men's fed clubs (like the Marden facility) and the Men's league kick's off this weekend. Thus less and less opportunity to use them. Unless the games are postponed to a later time on the same day (which is actually in line with the hot weather policy) with perhaps the first game cancelled and the other games starting after 5pm with regular drink breaks, I can't see how we're going to get this event going this year unless they hold it as a mid-year fixture when the junior state teams go away????

Sad Gal, mid-week game is a nice idea, but I don't think you'll get as many people down there and the idea is to raise as much money as possible.

Is this because of ground availability if a later start. (KRAZY)
I believe a later start , with a 5 person bench and unrestricted interchange along with a rehydration break after 25 min would see players come through unscathed. On MMM they have been really advertising/promoting this charity game. I am sure that the coaches of both teams will put their players welfare before winning. Although how well they used their benches and interchanges would contribute also to who came out on top. :)

Thats interesting Krazy, when did you hear that?? Only because i was told by SAWSA as early as yesterday afternoon that the proposed kick-off for the season is March 30th.

Although we haven't seen any fixtures yet, so I wouldn't be complaining about an April start :D

Are the rumours from a reliable source?

If it's true I hope they make some sort of announcement soon.

yeh we were told last night at training that the game will either be postponed to the 30th of march or be set to a later time on the 16th.

Dont know much about fixtures yet but Fulham know who they have in round 1 n thats all that matters at the moment
