Verbal Abuse

Post by rabbit »

Already we have experienced first hand a Junior Coach at a prominent Club abusing a referee (or umpire in his own words) for what he thought was a poor decision in a trial game. I know sometimes Coaches get a little hot under the collar and frustrated with what appear to be poor decisions by referees but 10 minutes into a trial game over a nothing tackle is just being plain dumb and disrespectful. Yes he may have been a ref that we provided but he was a young kid helping us out. Do you ever wonder why we can't get enough refs during the season. Well, there was the reason. Possibly knew he was in for a long night and decided to air his frustrations on the referee maybe? If that was the case then all he was really doing was teaching his players how to be bad sports. This was a Club who have talked it up a bit on the Junior Forum about how they had recruited well in the Coaches dept for this season. Hmmm....perhaps his time could have been better served working out why his team performed the way they did? However, I do wish them luck in their quest this year to play some good football and look forward to meeting them again in the not too distant future.

I'd personally like to apologise to you citynumeruno because obviously somewhere down the track I have offended or upset you. Have a great season, put some more trophies in the cupboard and keep smiling :P

It's great that you are happy with Adelaide City but you probably could have ended that sentence with "IMO". To label the whole club based on one Coach is uncalled for - IMO.

Rivally is one thing but out and out disrespect just makes you look bad.

Just a thought,

maybe the FFSA should/could appoint inspectors for clubs to assess these sort of things.

If it up to the officials (referree's) to do this then what happens at the trial games ?

I know they have referee inspectors so why not club / coach inspectors.

Or do we put these responsibilities onto the already over worked ref's ?

I have been informed that this year if a coach or club abuses an offical ref the books coming out and you will be hit with it especially the younger one's, so it will be interesting to see if the FFSA has got what it takes!

Rule 23.2.1 a (ii)
"Any official observing foul, abusive or dergatory comments during or after a game that are deemed, in the opinion of the appointed match offical, unappropriate, shall have full permission to use the 20,000-volt cattle prod provided on the afore-mentioned perpetrator"

Wow, looks like the FFSA are getting serious

FFSA appointed inspectors would be nice but who is going to volunteer?

Pay them you say? Can't pay someone with something you don't have.

The issue of inappropriate behaviour by coaches, officials and parents occurs regularly enough that I would hope those around would take the collective responsbility and remind the offending adult what is considered appropriate behaviour as a role model in public.

Of course, it still boils down to not enough quality coaches to lead the many teams that are out there.

This offending coach in question obviously values winning more important than anything else. Is that a personal trait of the coach or a directive from the club?
For the Game. For the World.
