Arnold deserves some credit

Made some big changes had both Kewell and Cahill on the bench, brought in Milligan, Beauchamp and Carney and played Emerton at Centre Half. Made all the right changes, only thing that suprised me was Wiltshire don't know what they see in him and would like to have seen Carle instead of Holman. People can say we rode our luck (which we did a bit) but Wiltshire had 2 great chances to kill the game of and missed. Thailand only had 1 or 2 good chances although too many half chances for my liking. It was almost a complete reversall of the Iraq game, Australia chasing the game and getting caught, same happened to Thailand last night

Hmm, not sure if i agree Knight7. My left testicle coud see after the first game that Kisnorbo was an absolute dud. The fact that Arnold waited another game before adding in Milligan and Beauchamp shows the right changes were made 1 game late, and could have proved very costly. He also failed to make changes on our left when the Thai right back was having a field day down that side. Im not sure if it was due to Carney playing too far up at the wrong times, but we were very lucky at 1-0 that they didnt get a goal or 2 from his complete dominance in that area.

Cahill has been on the bench in every game so there was no change there. As for dropping Kewell, well I fail to see how that was a good move. We did score 3 goals when he came on, and he seemed to be the only one who knew how to slow the tempo down.

Wilkshire has never impressed me in the green and gold, but i thought last night was actually the best we have sen him play?

starting Kewell on the bench was a good move, by the time he came on the game had slowed down a notch and opened up - suited him perfectly considering he has only played a few games in the last year.

I don't want Arnold as Full Time Coach, however I'm certain that the large majority of us would take an "Acting" job for more money if our boss quit. Can't believe the flack he got, after serving Australia well as an Assistant. He made some good changes to the starting team last night and also during the game - perhaps he gave some poor performing players one chance too many but equally sometimes having faith pays off - Bresciano was far better last night as an example. And looking back at everyones preferred starting 11 for last night, few if any had Carney in the team, no-one had Kewell on the bench and Beauchamp starting - we are all genuises in hindsight!

Wilshire was good last night. Holman out Carle in and can somebody please tell Emerton to pass the ball from distance instead of running 20 or 30 meter's to a man and passing a 1m ball. All he's done is slow the attack and drag an extra defender to the man he gives the ball to.

Baggio, you are spot on with your comments on Emmerton.

I've often said that he trys to run with the ball too much and takes on players when a pass would be far more effective.

When he does do the simple things he's very good and puts in some brilliant balls.

Just wish he'd do the simple stuff more often.

Why does Arnold deserve credit exactly?

This is Les Myrray's opinion and it makes sense too:

arnold deserves credit? man what u smoking? he deserves the sack,as les murray said they only beat thailand, and the scoreline flattered the socceroos, u cannot be serious, arnold needs to go, and he will

Agree - give credit to Arnold....what for? Two changes were forced on him - Neill through suspension and Kisnorbo through self implosion.

Kisnorbo never looked comfortable in any of the games he played - I though he looked very shaky against Uruguay and Singapore. Cant understand why Arnold stuck with him in the starting 11.

Australia performed poorly at the tournament - only one win out of four games. Arnold has been involved in the Socceroos for a long time and has had the top job for twelve months. He has no excuse. He failed.

taking viduka off wasnt such a great call, if he had maybe waited then had to sacrifice viduka after the red card it might of worked better for us

Arnold is far from being a good international coach. Domestically he may fair well as many others, but to flick the switches at the top you need to have alot more experience coaching at the club level and not just any club, I am talking clubs in quality leagues!

I think Arnold will coach in Europe and 10 years time will be coaching Australia again with more expirence in different leagues.

I reckon he will make a good coach for Gawler under 12's that probably the only job he will get in coaching
