Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
There should've been seeding in this first round so reserves sides didn't meet WNPL teams until Round 2. This is what effectively happens in the Men's Fed Cup.
Also surely by now the State League has reserves and they can have 2 cups again.
Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
The stronger Reserves teams will fancy their chances against the State League teams, The standard isn't much different.
With regard to reserves teams for Women's State League, they do not have reserves at this stage and backfill the top team from Community Teams.
This is the right move for now, as a lot of the State League Clubs are lacking quality depth. Their support teams could be Div 2 or even lower.

Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
Time to remove them and just have the WNPL and State League clubs.
The reserves dont really need a Cup, their aim is to try and get into the first team.
Or put them into the Div 1 Cup instead.

Not a bad idea - Div 1/Reserves cup - there is no benefit to the very very one sided scorelines.

Not really fair for the Div 1 players who have signed up for a social comp. Bit like suggesting NPL Ressies being put in the SAASL cupSwandelPark wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 7:14 pmNot a bad idea - Div 1/Reserves cup - there is no benefit to the very very one sided scorelines.

Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
Reserves don't need a cup competition they are part of the senior squad.
Can't put them against the Community league teams .
Do away with having Reserves in the cup also stops clubs who allegedly stack their Reserve team with wnpl players for the first round.
Depending on what the rules say, what is to stop Ade City and WTB playing wnpl players for the reserve team in their cup match ?
Use to be a rule that in cup competition you could not play for two different teams in the same cup competition.
In other words any player who is named on the team sheet for the reserves side, cannot be used in the wnpl squad, they are treated as two different teams in cup competition.

looking at the fixtures, i doubt they would need to stack their teams with WNPL playersIn the way wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 10:52 pm Do away with having Reserves in the cup also stops clubs who allegedly stack their Reserve team with wnpl players for the first round.

Hold that last kick off. With Uni reserves ()forfeiting to Metro, the Uni prems vs Jets could be at 14.00 TBC.

hard to work dribble out but in one cup match against state league looks like one wnpl reserves team fielded about half of the squad that played wnpl last Friday nightromarios shin wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 7:53 amlooking at the fixtures, i doubt they would need to stack their teams with WNPL playersIn the way wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 10:52 pm Do away with having Reserves in the cup also stops clubs who allegedly stack their Reserve team with wnpl players for the first round.

does that mean those players are now ineligible to play cup matches for the wnpl side ?

Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
Players can always move up- that is, if they've played reserves they can play prems later on in the cup. Once they've played prems in the cup, however, they can't then later move back down and play reserves...

Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
I don't know about that, what you said use to be allowed, but I was talking to a wnpl reserves player earlier in the week, she said her coach was very wary of who plays in the Reserves and who plays in the wnpl side in cup games, as they are not allowed to play for two different teams in the same cup competition, even if it is the same club.juniorsupporter wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 10:26 am Players can always move up- that is, if they've played reserves they can play prems later on in the cup. You might talking about if they are registered as junior players, they are free to move up and down.
Would be interesting to get the offical ruling .

Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
A stand alone Reserves Cup adds value as it places these players in pressure games.
Great for player development, but playing WNPL teams can have the opposite effect.
I try to use a player development mentality when considering this comp.
Boys have a stand a lone Reserves comp.
Great for them, even if the available numbers of teams is small.

Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
I just went to the Football SA website and read the cup eligibility rules (sad, I know). The rules and regulations are there for anyone to read- The rule doesn't seem to have changed. You may be thinking of playing for different clubs in the same cup competition, which a player is not allowed to do...If they've only played reserves, they can move up and play Prems for that same club. Once they've played Prems, they can't drop back down ( they become "cup tied")....In the way wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 12:14 pmI don't know about that, what you said use to be allowed, but I was talking to a wnpl reserves player earlier in the week, she said her coach was very wary of who plays in the Reserves and who plays in the wnpl side in cup games, as they are not allowed to play for two different teams in the same cup competition, even if it is the same club.juniorsupporter wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 10:26 am Players can always move up- that is, if they've played reserves they can play prems later on in the cup. Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
It looks like two more teams have forfeited.
Fulham Reserves forfeit vs Sturt Lion WSL
South Adelaide WSL forfeit vs Flinders Flames WNPL
Thats 3 Reserve sides & 1 WSL side that have forfeited so far.
Should teams be given a choice to enter the Cup?
Should teams be fined if they forfeit?

Teams are fined if they forfeit. And scheduling games on or close to Easter weekend probably didn't help.

Fair enough, I have not been involved for a while, years ago I did challenge the ambiguity of a couple of the cup rules back then.
One in particular which relates to what we are talking about, the rule was "senior players are allowed to move up a grade into a higher cup competition"
I queried that going by that rule, wnpl players who played for the Reserves in the cup, does that make them ineligible to play for the wnpl side, as they were not not playing in a higher grade competition ?
However if your reserves have a bye, there is nothing to stop your club using some of those Reserve players in their community grade team, should you have one, and then are free to move back up in your Reserve team again, which is the higher grade.
I will leave it at that for now, thanks for the interaction, take care.
Sorry if it sounds confusing, the cup format has changed over the years, I guess the rules have too.

Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
What a disgrace.
How can a club like Adelaide City forfeit this match at Senior level (even if its their Reserves)?
How can they not field a team, they are one of the most if not the most successful clubs in this State for womens football.

Re: WNPL / WSL Cup
When you speak about successful, you speak about the 1st team. Everything below that level for City has been atrocious for years.

Certainly not this season where their standard has really fallen away although helped by the recent return of Dylan Holmes & Isabel Hodgson now playing in her more familiar role up forward.
Not surprised some of the younger A-League girls chose not to return to City & are now instead playing in a much much better standard in the NSW NPL.
