Re: Goal of the tournament
Switzerland's winning goal in the dying seconds of the match: Behrami (after having played absolute bollocks for the whole 90 minutes) blocking a shot in his own 18 yard box, carrying the ball to the middle of the park where he gets mauled - getting up while still in motion to play the pass up the pitch. I have not very often seen such determination and the absolute will to make it happen.
P.S. Full kudos to the ref who played the advantage

Messi's this morning was pretty good, so was Honda's.
I haven't seen that goal from the Swiss. Will check it out tonight!

absolutely brilliant. technique was brilliant, and on the left foot made it even harder.
that's why we love football - anything can happen in the blink of an eye, you just need that patience.

Hopefully with Ang at the healm Russia 2018 will be a better tournament for the Aussies but for the short term lets hope we can take out the Asian Cup next year on home soil. Go you Aussies.

I think the future is looking very bright as long as we keep improving and learning from the mistakes we make.

Re: Goal of the tournament
Saw Timmy's goal about 5 times last night and i have a feeling this could now get as much air time as John's penalty that took us to Germany after all those years.
As Martin Tyler would say.....My Word absolutely brilliant!!!!!

Re: Goal of the tournament
As good as it was...and it was bloody good....technically, it's harder to judge and then execute Tims volley from height, across his body on his non preferred foot on an angle
As opposed to...
Receiving the ball unopposed, chesting it, swivelling and volleying from directly in front.....
I know it sounds ridiculous to be so pedantic but I'm curious to hear from forumites who play at a reasonable level...

He swivelled to be directly in front & all in one motion too.MegaBonus wrote:As good as it was...and it was bloody good....technically, it's harder to judge and then execute Tims volley from height, across his body on his non preferred foot on an angle

It looked as though it was a totally legal goal.Rookie wrote:I think we may have a new contender for Cahills goal, James from Colombia this morning, cracking volley after cheating it down. Brilliant
Whats wrong with you?
Its either indigestion or this forum, and I hope its indigestion
Why?
Because at least I know that will get better in a little while

Re: Goal of the tournament
Whilst his and Cahill's were superbly executed, they're an instinctive strike, they've just crashed it towards the goal and the speed (and surprise probably) have beaten the keeper. I still think RVP's header is technically harder, he looks up, knows where the keeper is, has time his run to wait for the cross almost, then has to generate the power whilst controlling the flight precisely, and all with his noggin.Juventino wrote:Ha-mes for me. Just superb.
That's so difficult, but perhaps not as spectacular.

Oh for sure, that was ahead of Cahill's for me. Maybe I'm swept up in Ha-mes fever But I did love that header.Nice One Cyril wrote:Whilst his and Cahill's were superbly executed, they're an instinctive strike, they've just crashed it towards the goal and the speed (and surprise probably) have beaten the keeper. Re: Goal of the tournament
Many good goals, Tim Cahills was a great goal but the Best Goal so far is definitely the Columbian Striker's goal. Chest the ball and turn on the volley. By far the best!

Maybe not the best of all but I'm surprised not to hear more about the goal Mueller sidefooted like a rocket into the corner.

i think you're right there - Tim's goal by a country mile - absolutely perfect goal with superb technique and with a defender pressuring him.

As said, Cahills was a great strike, but second to the Columbian strike.MegaBonus wrote:As good as it was...and it was bloody good....technically, it's harder to judge and then execute Tims volley from height, across his body on his non preferred foot on an angle

Re: Goal of the tournament
Definitely not a miskick, odd technique called "knuckleball" where you hit it very flat with no serve, and so the movement of the ball is unpredictable.Rookie wrote:Luiz's free kick this morning was pretty good but was it a miss kick
