Socceroos to play Ecuador in London

THE Socceroos' countdown to the World Cup will continue in March against Ecuador after the South American qualifiers agreed to a friendly with ­Australia in London.

Though it's understood the deal has yet to be formally signed off, Australian officials are confident it will be - given the lack of available alternative opposition for either side on March 5.

I'm a huge fan of these friendlies in Europe. Sure I'd love to see these games be played in Australia but we need to get our best group together. Putting a 50 hour round trip on top of that makes life very difficult for players.

That was probably true a few seasons ago but they are a totally different club now and are starting to once again be seen as a top club.
