Can Fulham pull off a miracle escape?

Post by Mr X »

Fulhams win yesterday, keeps their Div 1 survival hopes alive, currently 5 points a drift of 8th placed West Beach.

With a game in hand against Beach, and games against PH West and Inter, whilst Beach play Farm and Downs, a win against Beach and a win in their other 2 matches could see Fulham survive.

Surely after yesterday's results this league will want this game played ASAP.

The game should be decided before the final round kicks off.

the game should already have been played. Pontian would have to be filthy because they still aren't done mathematically either

Fulham deserve the right to play the game at home as it is there home game - inclement weather is out of anyones control and the pitches were deemed unsuitable by the officiating referees on the day.

Surely you can't be saying that Fulham should have to give up there home ground advantage and have to play at a netural venue for what might be such an important game (Still might not be after this weeks round) - I guarantee that wont be happening and Fulham will be fighting every step of the way to have it played at our home ground.

the game should be played at a neutral venue if your pitch isn't deemed playable. This is a farce and Pontian have every right to be filthy that a game that has a remote chance in their fate is being dragged out so long.

Just wondering what the advantage of playing it at home is ?

Different size pitch?
Grass is longer ?
Lines are wider ?
Toilets are cleaner?
Beer is colder?
No meat pies ?

This was brought up last week and some people, bigpond, thought it was a joke.

Like I said league is a joke. I'm sure if it were some of the bigger clubs in this postion game would of been sorted by now.

C'mon Alex make a call and sort it out before the weekend!

Seriously you don't play at anfield or old Trafford for gods sake. Just get the game sorted out. But when westies win this weekend you won't have to worry about your precious home ground advantage

And why would Pontian be filthy? This game has no real bearing on their survival. Just get some bottle of shiraz points before worrying about the Fulham/beach game

Can I just add here that the players in the fulham A squad want this game sorted ASAP. So don't point ur fingers at them. No one wants to play after seasons end unless its for the cup

Playing a night game (and that is the only option if it is played before Round 18) would also disadvantage West Beach as I believe a number of there players work nights so it is not only about Fulham but also being fair to them.

In the end the league will make the decision.

If Fulham were canny enough to secure a $400k grant to upgrade the clubrooms, maybe they should instigate an additional application for funds to improve ground drainage - then there would be less chance of cancelled games due to poor ground conditions, and no further claims of any further "hard luck" stories as a result.

2 cancelled amateur games in about 20 years at Fulham - the pitches are a nightmare aren't they

Dont worry about the FFSA games that get cancelled there - there refs cancel games if it starts to drizzle.

If Fulham stay up all the teams are going to Vegas with the money and the portable changerooms are staying

If Fulham are already relegated by then and beach need the points to stay up, what's to say Fulham just forfeit the round? (Hypothetically speaking, not saying they will by any means). Pontians would be spewing! In any league around the world, if the final games still have a say in championships/promotion/relegation then they are ALWAYS played at the same time as all other games, not an hour later, not a day later, and certainly not a week later. Poor organisation by the league. If players train weeknights, then they can play weeknights too.

observation over a long period of time (particularly at this time of year) - I suspect not all sides have their Sunday starting eleven turning up for every training session during the week.

Like I said all very amateur!

I havent had a go at the clubs nor has the Pontian club. Its the league that needs to sort this out.

Yep Pontians needs at the very least a win against either the top two teams in the league that have only lost twice or three times max!!! Start believing in miracles maybe!!!
Disappointing year for the club and that is for another topic but as for this debacle the league just needs to be fair and sort this mess out!

What the hell are you guys all on - Pontians are gone and if they think they can beat Downs or Gardens then seriously they are deluded - not having a go but seriously with Gardens and Downs having a title on the line they won't be losing to Pontians.

Its simple - Pontians and Fulham are going down or Pontians and Beach - so don't know what the problem is if you are a realist.

Though football is a funny game with twists and turns.. Reality suggests Pontians to lose against Downs & Gardens.
Downs did have a lot on the line and drew to Fulham the bottom side so Pontians always a chance for 3 points against Downs. Dont see Gardens dropping points.

Fulham would be in a better position if they beat beach (hypothetically) sooner rather than later and closing the points gap earlier would in my opinion place further pressure on beach to secure points in their remaining fixtures. Assuming of course that Fulham did in fact beat beach in the catch up game. Having said this both Pontians and beach can put an end to all of this conjecture and still have destiny in their own hands. Still 180 mins of football to be played despite the views of all and sundry on this forum. Every team in this league is beatable.

Fulham, keep their season alive with a come from behind win yesterday,

West Beach come from behind twice to snatch an invaluable point,

This week has Fulham at Inter and Beach home to Downs, if either team can grab a point it will be like gold, with the catch up game being almost a cup final the week after.

Remember a few years back, 2008, I went to watch the last league game of the season, West Beach played Elizabeth Downs at West Beach and if it wasn't for the heroics of Benny Aldridge they might have won....Downs won 0-1. Had Beach won that day Parafield Gardens might have dropped to Division 2...but they didn't. In 2009 Parafield avoided the drop once again by 2 points and went on to be Champions in 2010 and 2011.

Your quite correct Swannsong that game was crucial in the success that the Gardens has achieved since 2008 (thanks Benny ; ) , hopefully West Beach can look at what can be achieved from that position & I'm certain they need no further motivation other than to stay in Division 1.
Im tipping Beach will be up for that Challenge on Sunday.

Im tipping Azza to take a huge scalp with him on his way out of Div 1 and Downs to win at Beach and claim the title in dramatic circumstances and leave the relegation battle open for a huge finale on Sept 15th at Fulham.

Extraordinary effort by the boys yesterday to come from behind twice to snatch the 3 points.
