Player flashes ref in FA Cup tie

The FA Cup says goodbye to AFC Croydon Athletic, along with Louis Blake's indiscretions.

AFC Croydon Athletic endured a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Colliers Wood at the weekend, dashing any hopes of the Combined Counties League Division One side reaching the preliminary round of the FA Cup. The match stood out for other reasons though, as Croydon midfielder Louis Blake was given a red card for 'flashing' the referee in a bizarre incident that left the debutant baffled.

The 21-year-old was introduced in the second half with the hope of changing his side's flagging fortunes, but after 20 minutes the referee noticed the player's black lycra under-shorts did not match Croydon's maroon colours. Blake was asked to remove the offending garment, despite his protests that he had no replacement underwear to use.

Blake therefore returned to the pitch minus anything underneath his shorts, or 'going commando' as the saying goes. When the referee demanded he prove he had removed the black lycra shorts, Blake pulled down his maroon shorts just enough to show there was nothing underneath, which was apparently too much for the referee who immediately showed the hapless midfielder a red card for exposing himself.

"I was gobsmacked," said Blake. "I was shocked and I was angry. I just pulled my shorts forward a bit to show him there was nothing there and he gave me a red. How else am I meant to prove I've got nothing on down there?

"All I wanted to do was make a good impression on my debut and now I'm probably going to have to miss three games."

You'll still get those who will defend the ref regardless.

Surely it depends on how much he showed?

If he got his grenache out for example then it's not hard to see why he was sent off.

And the reporter's

reporter sounds like he's from Croydon to me. And also, how close to the incident was he. It may have been a cold day.

Didn't the ref ask him to show him?
No country who has never qualified for the world cup should be allowed to host it at the expense of one who has.
Sod Japan, sod Qatar, sod Blatter and his cronies!

apparently so, but why wouldn't you pull the leg of the shorts up? If he got his grenache out then he quite rightly got a red card.

Did he pull his grenache out? It doesn't say he did.
Having said that, he should had had the proper skins on before taking to the pitch in the first place.

no, but as I said above "It depends on how much he showed". The report wouldn't say that anyway, it's from his own club.

One has to wonder though why he didn't have any underpants in his bag?

Surely he wouldn't go home in clothes he's played in?
