FA Cup restored to it's traditional place
At last the FA Cup has been restored to it's traditional place as the last match of the English football season.
The English F.A. said the Final will take place @ Wembley on May 17 - a week after the EPL finishes.
"We're well aware that fans and media have been calling for the FA Cup Final to have a day to itself and we're delighted that it will happen for 2014", said the FA General Secretary Alex Horne.

I was going to say I hope it is back to it's traditional 3pm London time, but I was scared of being mauled by cynical rabid forumites... (see past brawls, er 'discussions' on this point...)God is an Englishman wrote:Was just about to post this, no mention of the kick off time though.

Never happen by me, the FA Cup should always be at 3pm (BST) the week after the last game of the season in the highest English division. It should be a stand alone game with no other games taking place on that day.
Re: FA Cup restored to it's traditional place
Agreed. What was the actual reasoning behind changing it in the first place?

they're blaming Wembley being used for champions league finals and the olympics.

Didn't say you - but as expected, was personally attacked by others who wouldn't discuss the issue. No surprise on this forum. I meant the "never happen by me" more of a comment of supporting your opinion than an accusation.
I 100% agree with you on this subject

Con, in fairness, wasnt your argument (or at least in part) more the fact that it meant it was on later here in Australia and as such, many Aussies wouldn't stay up so late?

Re: FA Cup restored to it's traditional place
Yes, partly selfish, Bomber. Like you I bet, I had been to many a good FA Cup night party here in OZ down the years, but that Aussie Saturday tradition had died when it became a 2.00am Adelaide Sunday morning game here (2.30am in the big smokes of Sydney, Brissy & Melbourne).Bomber wrote:Con, in fairness, wasnt your argument (or at least in part) more the fact that it meant it was on later here in Australia and as such, many Aussies wouldn't stay up so late?
I sided with relatives in London who loved the 3pm k.o. and relatives in Melbourne who had their FA Cup parties. As for the rabid ones who don't stay on the issue, once again I say sticks and stones, I have quite a thick hide on these forums and expect no less from them.

and don't forget, noone should be training either. Someone might jump through your windscreen whilst you are driving home from training and scream the result in your ear.God is an Englishman wrote:Con M wrote:I was going to say I hope it is back to it's traditional 3pm London time, but I was scared of being mauled by cynical rabid forumites... Season should be over by then anyway, apart from a few clubs involved in the play offs.

It's already been tarnished.
A signature has the effect of "signing off" the message indicating that no more response follows. It is common practice for a signature to contain some brief information on the author of the message, but not in this case.

2004 for me, one of the best days of my life.
Been to 2 of them, 1985 and 2004. First player to be sent off in '85 and youngest player to ever play in the final '04.

And of course because Prinsep's played at the Oval and Weston's at Millenium.

I told you on here that it was going to happen just after the FA emailed me with the news after the 2012/13 FA Cup Final.Con M wrote:At last the FA Cup has been restored to it's traditional place as the last match of the English football season.

Nice to know they weren't trying to fob me off.

Re: FA Cup restored to it's traditional place
From this week's British Football Weekly:
F.A. Chairman Greg Dyke confirmed that the F.A. Cup Final will continue to be staged at 5.15pm London time, despite strong opposition to the later kick-off time.
"I'm certainly happy with that 5.15pm k.o. time because if you look at at the viewing figures for the past two FA Cup Finals they were much bigger than they would have been had the match kicked off at the traditional 3pm," Dyke said.
"The World changed and we had to change with it".
