Not really feeling it
Does anyone else these days sort of feel distant from the Socceroos?
I used to be the person no matter what time the boys were playing I would be out of bed or make sure I'm not working to watch, I cried the day we made it to WC 06, I've repeatedly flown to the Eastern states to watch them play. But these days with the direction I feel to Socceroos are heading with their selection of squad members I feel I spend more time just bagging them out due to their stupidity and poor playing style. Personally I'm a very large fan of youth development I think it should be the second most important thing a club or country should focus on besides results on the pitch. But I feel with the Socceroos, youth development has gone backwards and as we see with our junior sides, the future doesn't appear to be rosey. Considering we can't get a decent squad together to even make the Olympics. Which I feel is why we need to call some of them up to the seniors for them to get national team experience. We have amazing players out there like Herd, Troisi, Bulut, Leckie, Burns, Oar, Williams, Ruka and Lowry but we're almost ignoring them to select mid thirty year old players without a club, even though in Herd and Troisi's case some of the biggest clubs in the world rate them but for some reason we don't.
I would absolutely love for us to go to Brazil 2014 with confidence and expect positive results but based on current form and the age of the players we're entirely depending on I don't really see that happening. So IMO why bother going if we're just making up the numbers? We as a football nation must be moving forward and sure 06 was fantastic and 2010 we were unlucky but if we go to Brazil with the current squad we have I feel we will just be there to make those numbers up. So why not let a lesser nation like Bahrain or Uzbekistan go who have been unlucky to miss out in past attempts, and with the Uzzies especially have put major focus into youth development. I'm not saying we don't try to make it I just feel the football fan in me would rather see a nation heading in the right direction make it over a side that appears to see the World Cup as a revenue source instead of a development opportunity.
I would love to hear others thought on this...

We will be lucky to qualify. Relying too much on the "old brigade" whilst many other nations have developed much better. Need to start finding the next generation of stars.....quickly!

people said we had an easy group cos we avoided korea, pish, japan are going along well, plus a few trips to the gulf will test us as were generally struggle over there, like we did v oman, can't believe he set out for a draw and hoped to knock off japan after all the travel and japans form
the changing of the gaurd needs to happen before 204, not after

Re: Not really feeling it
well said mate....the Pim Verbeek and Holger Osieck era's have definitely made me not enjoy watching the Socceroos as much anymore...it is a very boring style. Although the start of Holger's reign did look promising but ever since it is verbeek all over again. No youth development, youngsters getting ago. Oldies getting a go every time...Archie Thompson...seriously this bloke is past it, how he keeps getting selected is beyond me and defies logic
Re: Not really feeling it
they just wanna make the world cup and its safer using the same old names.

Re: Not really feeling it
As much as I've been harping on about not being keen for Socceroos matches. I've quite excited for this one. C'mon lads! I won't be upset with poor game play just a AUFC style smash and grab win will do tonight! We have to stay in touch with the Samurai Blue!

Re: Not really feeling it
well said.... i didnt even realise it coz my loyalty is so strong
but it doesnt feel the same
and a good coach would be able to get a bunch of our kids and play atleast at the level that the current team is. of course you keep the good ones but we shouldve seen a few of these other talents alot more than we have, ive said this all along

Thats the last straw! Holger OUT! If this bloke hasn't got the ability to find 11 blokes who at the very least are match fit they he clearly isn't working hard enough.nathanburns15 wrote:Ouch.Stuckey wrote:As much as I've been harping on about not being keen for Socceroos matches. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/112 ... le-changes"The disappointment is enormous," Osieck said.
"We had a very, very poor first half, we didn't get into the game. Our passing was a disaster, we never could get into our normal rhythm.
"We played a lot of long balls and I don't know why that happened.
WTF?!

Re: Not really feeling it
Personally I don't want to see a rush job done here. This needs careful planning. First we need to start getting our youth structure right. We need to get our young kids playing at a decent level regularly. This means player like Amini, Leckie, Burns, Djite and Langerak that went to Europe young only to play bugger all and sit on the bench for the first couple of seasons. Need to be enticed to stay in the HAL longer, they were all getting regular gametime so why ruin that? If they are really as good as they say they are the offers from these big clubs won't only not go away they will surely increase, benefitting everyone here. We need to make better use of the youth marquee system, as far as I know has only been used by one club Gold Coast. These kids need to be playing regularly in a professional environment and then once they have at least 100 club games under their belt do they then be released (or hopefully sold) into the wild. This is how the Japanese clubs are doing it and I feel its the way forward. I realise the signing of Del Piero is a big deal for the league but blowing $2m per season on him when we can't afford to hold on to our best and brightest young stars seems in a word 'stupid'ozzie owl wrote:Bomber wrote:We will be lucky to qualify. Re: Not really feeling it
Maybe this is why ur ..Not really feeling it....
It's becoming more & more obvious with each game that the talent of Australian footballers is drying up.....FFA will realize world class coaches need to be appointed to all Australian teams not just the socceroos.....Osieck has no hope because the talent is just not around anymore....
Think players should move to good European clubs about 15..

Re: Not really feeling it
still 5 games to go, and only 2 points behind the automatic spots FFS. we should be aiming to qualify, second will do it. let's get there and hopefully the squad sorts itself out in the next two years.
Re: Not really feeling it
I agree that would be great for the players probably and in the end may be great for the socceroos. BUT only if the FFA have a staff to go round the world and remain in contact with these kids and set up camps and games for them to play otherwise other nations will just take them as their own. Also this won't help the HAL grow which is also important to actually getting kids into football in the first place. If the entire national league is entirely bypassed by every talented junior the league will drop off dramatically and we'll be back to playing players not good enough to make it in Europe and old has beens. (IMO not too far from what it is now!)EnzoG wrote:Maybe this is why ur ..Not really feeling it....
