Really hope if the game goes our way we can make the changes we want. By we I mean what I want!
Bresc off Sarota on
Neill or Oga off McGowan on
Carney off Davidson on.

Not completely sold with Brosque up front but at the moment it appears he is the best we have.

Oga goes down with an injury Spira replaces him. Between Spira, Neill and Carney how many games have these guys played in the last month? Probably less then 5. How are they earning their places?

0-0 HT. We are looking seriously sloppy. Neill is doing nothing but booting long balls and giving away lousy frees due to his inability to keep up. Carney is on fire as per usual with a turn over a minute. Wilkshire and Kruse looking good down the right. Pitch isn't fantastic but is no excuse for how lousy we are, some look like they had a big night last night making basic errors. Jordan have gone close a couple of times but the game is ours if we wake up and take it. Hopefully we see Carney off Davidson on, and maybe McKay off for Sarota.

Out coached and out played......Pretty frustrating watching while half asleep..

Jordan pushed hard and made the Roos make mistakes, first touch and passing was terrible.

Don't really know why the media is reporting it as a "shock" loss?

Holger is exactly the same as Verbeek. Trying to play it safe with Dad's army! Neill has barely played any football of recent and Ognenovski is past playing at international level. Schwarzer is solid but we have good GK stocks in Langerak and Federici and Carney is just shit in general. If Brosque and Thompson are all we have up front we really do have problems!

The following players should be used much more (I understand some are injured atm):
Lowry, Herd, Davidson, McGowan brothers, Williams, Sarota, Oar, Zullo, Holland, Leckie, De Vere, Burns, Kilkenny, Troisi, Federici, Langerak and Rukavytsya.

Youngsters like Bulut, Babalj, Amini, Inman, Good and Cooper (VVV Venlo) whilst a fair way off should be monitored closely.

It's ok to have a handful of older players to help mentor the younger players, but not 3/4 of the squad.

I read an article that Herd wasn't selected because Holger questions his commitment to the Socceroos. Yet in an earlier article I read that Herd personally pledged his allegiance and committment to the Socceroos :?:

Surely Holger has to go soon. His squad selections are questionable and recent form average at best.

Get rid of Vidmar off the coaching staff and problem solved.

But seriously, surely Holger has to realise that all these old players won't be at 2014 and needs to start preparing for that (if we make it at all)

Can you imagine if we do get to the World Cup and the Cahill's, Neill's etc are retired and we'll have all these young kids there that only have a handful of caps under their belt as they haven't been given their chance? We may as well not even show up...

Still convinced Holger isn't the man for the job. Why Vidmar is still in a bloody job after his latest efforts is beyond me....

how embarrassing. Maybe this will make Holger realise that his selections are utter crap. For as long as he sticks with the 32-36 year olds, we have no chance of making 2014

It's becoming more & more obvious with each game that the talent of Australian footballers is drying up.....FFA will realize world class coaches need to be appointed to all Australian teams not just the socceroos.....Osieck has no hope because the talent is just not around anymore....

Maybe you should check the dates of these articles buddy! The article you're referring to was mid-August. The articles I'm referring to were August 30. If you read those articles you would realise that Osieck just isn't a fan of Herd and that's why he hasn't been picked!

I agree but is the next generation good enough?

I really fear for the I'm immediate future of our national side.

you can chop and change, call up all the players you like but the fact of the matter is the talent simply isnt there

it might make you feel better to think that a different manager or different players in the squad might make a difference but thats just how some deal with losing

these are the best players available right now to represent Australia so you may just have to face the reality that Australian football isnt good enough

On that basis though, who would you rather play, a 32 year old who's not good enough or a 20 year old who's not good enough? Might as well play the kids and hope they improve for the experience, I haven't met a 30+ player who's going to get any better.

Thats the exact problem. This hasn't sneaked up on us over night. Last world cup we went to South Africa with the second oldest squad. After that we should have sat down and planned out a strategy for the future. I'm not saying force the Cahill's, Kewell's and Neill's to retire but look at who we can bring in over the next 4 years to eventually replace them. In the end that wasn't done and now we're in the shitter. All we did was hire a new coash and tell him make the World Cup at any cost. So all we really can do is have that honest strategic plan set out now and write off the next couple of years because we were to visionless to set out a pathway years ago.

Do people really want the Socceroos to go to a WC where we are almost assured failure? I thought as a footballing nation we'd moved forward. If we go to Brazil and just make up the numbers like we did in South Africa clearly we haven't then.

and lose 4-0? at least the Socceroos were in this match. with some luck they could've snatched a draw

Like England!

There are a few major issues

1) The coach seems out of his depth
2) There (partly bacause of the change in coaches) was no future plan
3) The talent coming through is nowhere near as good as the 'old guard' was
4) We are still a strong chance to qualify, which would still be a great result
Are you Bodo in disguise?
