BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER cranked up the pressure on Chelsea’s old guard by saying: The Germans always win on penalties.

The Bayern Munich midfielder kicked off the mind games ahead of the Champions League final by insisting keeper Manuel Neuer will be their hero if it goes to a shootout.

Chelsea lost the 2008 final to Manchester United in Moscow on penalties.

Skipper John Terry is suspended on Saturday but for Frank Lampard, 33, Didier Drogba, 33, Ashley Cole, 31, and Michael Essien, 28, this could be their last shot at winning the trophy.

However Schweinsteiger is convinced Neuer will hold Chelsea at bay and Bayern will be victorious.

Neuer, 26, saved two penalties as Bayern knocked out Real Madrid in a semi-final shootout at the Bernabeu.

And Schweinsteiger said: “It is not just during a shootout that Manuel will give us an advantage, it is during the game.

“It is not easy to win on penalties against a German team.

“Those players like Lampard, Drogba, Cole and Essien, who were in Moscow for the final, will have extra motivation.

“They will be the most dangerous, they know maybe it is their last chance to try and win it.”
