Time for AFL to start planning 2 divs?
The talk on the Allianz thread got me thinking about the unevenness of the AFL.
I've always thought not playing each other twice and having a club play 18 out of 22 games a season at the grand final venue was a joke. (Collingwood playing home @ the MCG is like Liverpool or Chelsea playing all their home games at Wembley this season.)
Now with 18 teams, playing each other twice just won't happen. It will mean a 34 game season and the die hards will still want their finals series on top.
Do they finally have the numbers to go to 2 divs? - an 18 game season + finals (+bollox cup) and create a fair league where they can promote and relegate also.
A cup comp would throw all 18 in together, but they could always offer a couple of top state level teams a gig too and even the numbers up to 10 a div.

not 2 divs, a significant change in the draw.
Based on previous seasons the ladder should be broken up into 3 groups of 6. The top 6 from the previous season, middle 6 and bottom 6 all play each other twice, and everyone else once. This equates to 22 games each still. Make sit much more even rather than GWS playing Collingwood twice for example and will certainly make the top 4, top 8 battles much more interesting and the rest can please themselves

Playing games is a good habit to refresh yourself both physically and mentally, there are many games available which you can enjoy, partying, music, dancing are also the forms of games where one can get pleasure from the activity. Games bring people together regardless of gender, generation and race. Games also create a sense of equality among all races of people and shows performance of every team member because often games played with teams. Playing games like soccer, swimming, base ball, basket ball, cricket and etc. Improves your stamina and mental health and you become more active in your daily life if you make a habit of playing games, these types of games always have two components one is lost and the other one is a winner and there is always competition between both of the components. The game has a necessary rule of time to decide which is a loser and which one is a winner.

The conference system might work, though how it would work when essentially half the teams are based in or around melbourne.

It's working just fine. In the last 20 years there have been 12-13 different premiers. Can't say the same for 90% of soccer leagues in the world. So how can it be uneven?

Your comparison would hold more weight it the premiers actually were a team that finished on top afte an even home and away season.MG&Son wrote:It's working just fine. In the last 20 years there have been 12-13 different premiers.

this is true but the AFL have their ways of giving their favoured teams a better draw...more income come finals time.MG&Son wrote:It's working just fine. Don't the reigning premiers (Collingwood) play the new addition (GWS) twice this season??MG&Son wrote:It's working just fine. In the last 20 years there have been 12-13 different premiers. Can't say the same for 90% of soccer leagues in the world. So how can it be uneven?
They must have been up all night working out the fairness in that.

They should be playing them twice. They should be playing everyone twice. The issue is not who they play twice, it's who/why they don't.
