Media about children being turned away from Junior Soccer

Lack of facilities?

Solution is to establish a public and private schools zoned soccer competition.
It worked in the old days.
Taking the pressure off clubs.
Only elite players playing for FFSA junior clubs.
FFSA should force the restructure of junior soccer ASAP.
Eg by limiting the number of teams per club thus creating proper elite junior soccer competitions.

Where would the 'elite teams' get their money to play their 'elite players" if they don't have the junior 'cash cow"
Are you Bodo in disguise?

Plenty of places around at junior level, maybe parents should take little Johnnie away from Fed clubs and look into E&D etc?

A SURGING demand to join junior soccer teams across Adelaide is forcing suburban clubs to turn players away because there is not enough space to cater for them.

government needs to undertake an audit of sporting facilities and balance as best they can supply and demand in each sport

You know that audit isn't going to happen, or if they do it they won't release the findings.

I hate to play the victim card as a code, however the Aussie rules set are entrenched in the community facility battle and will fight like hell to keep the status quo in place.

I know of clubs struggling to field a team at the junior levels. Maybe a coordinated effort from the league to identify these and advise those on waiting lists.

Wow, we've been banging the facilities drum for the last few years and now it's in the media spotlight the FFSA suddenly react. The $10M grant should have been spent on clubs that are struggling to find venues rather than clubs that do not have a high demand

The media can help in certain situations but in others they can turn things around to bite you on the bum. IMO You have to be careful you are solid ground with the media because they have been known to twist a story. (and even on solid ground I would be very thoughtful before going down the media avenue)

Go down to the Western Suburbs and ask any of the FFSA clubs if they have a full roster of players. Most will tell you they struggle to field teams in all age groups and several players have to play 2 games on a Sunday. The reason is there is so many clubs within a small radius.

Western Strikers, Fulham, Pirates, Victory, Vipers, Croydon, Olympic ........ maybe another one in there

how many of the above clubs would have a Jpl and Jsl team in all age groups maybe Croydon?

That's because there's a club every couple of km's. Another FFSA cash cow.

out north though there are no boundaries, in the west once you hit water there are no more houses or players. 15km radius in the west has 7 clubs

I'm not too sure of any clubs further south than KI.

With a finite set of clubs world wide I'm pretty sure you could say that about any direction.

My idea from the past to restructure junior soccer and implant it into private and public schools is the best way.
Then after the children play in this system if they are good enough or want to go further seek a league club to continue.
When I first played the game in 1968 the league set up started from under 12's. Before that jump I played school and school zone soccer.
There was no teams under 11 downward .
Back then The schools via govt provided the facilities simple .
I even played school footy and cricket and sone athletics.
And it was all free.

For U12 to U17, these club i think would have the room to cater for more teams considering their current facilities:

Adelaide Hills have 4 teams

Adelaide Olympic 5 teams

Adelaide Univeristy 4 teams

Adelaide Victory 4 teams

Eastern United 5 teams

Gawler Eagles 3 teams

Mount Barker Utd 2 teams

Pirates 5 teams

South Adelaide 8 teams (they used to have 2 team per age group)

Cove 5 teams

Vipes 4 teams

I have spent a bit of time this year watching various FFSA junior games of various under age teams.
Total rubbish.
That is my analysis.
Parents take their children to clubs, forced to pay big bucks and many of these children have no idea of the game.
Skill and team levels are poor .

But these paying parents many think their children will hit the big time????
All they are doing is paying money to help fund senior teams.

It is a false economy.

Para Hills Knights - 13
Adelaide Comets - 12
Sturt lions - 12
Campbelltown City - 11
NE Metrostars - 10
WT Birkalla - 10
Raiders - 9
South Adelaide - 9
West Adelaide - 9
Modbury - 9

It is not just a matter of how many teams per club.

Clubs need to ensure they have the pitch space to have teams training a minimum of 2 nights a week then need to have/find the suitable coaches

The teams i listed where the ones i know have facilities to use for more teams.

Adelaide Hills have only 4 teams. They have plenty of room in an area that has 2000 players in the Adelaide Hills JSA.

Adelaide Olympic 5 teams - Uses school ovals as well as Ferryden Oval. They have room for more teams.

Adelaide University 4 teams - Plenty of parklands to use.

Adelaide Victory 4 teams - Pennington Oval?? Still room for more teams.

Eastern United 5 teams - They use a number of other facilities in the past. They have room for more teams.

Gawler Eagles 3 teams - Just 3 teams in JPL & JSL U12-U17? This club used to have 18 junior teams all up.

Mount Barker Utd 2 teams - See Adelaide Hills Hawks.

Pirates 5 teams - They use a number of other venues, they still have room.

South Adelaide 8 teams (they used to have 2 team per age group) - Their complex is huge, even with womens and girls teams.

Cove 5 teams - They use a number of grounds too. Room for more players.

Your data clearly shows that the FFSA junior PL is clearly just for revenue raising not teaching children how to play the game properly .

Western strikers has by far the best facilities in the West, they have in the past been a powerful junior club with jpl and jsl squads in all age groups. nowdays seems very limited. 3 full size pitches plus area for small sided.

Check out how many juniors have come from their structure to succeed in football (Woodville city soccer club) Vidmar boys spent many years down there, Ben Gurrucio an U12 junior.

How does my data show that?

Quite the opposite. That they are struggling to field teams

Most if not all I mentioned above are desperate for players.

How do those clubs financially support the seniors with such small numbers? They must have rich benefactors or generous sponsors

Which one of those teams listed above have a successful senior team? it is a proven formula have lots of juniors will give the seniors a lift. Olympic last year had lots of juniors and seniors got promoted this year not so many and the result will speak for itself.

but remember the clubs always say no no no, the senior team is self funded by sponsors, fundraisers and the canteen etc. I am sure they divide all the costs per team which gives them that result (eg, 100,000 costs 20 teams including senior structure then cost per team is 5,000 but the seniors individual cost is more like 80% of it)
