Australian Racheal Quigley Comes to Kansas City

The next chapter of the Kansas City Shock's player signings brings Australian national Racheal Quigley into the mix.

Starting at the age of five, Quigley played with boys on league teams up until the age of 12, which is also when she began competing in state competitions. In 2008 she won the leading goal scorer award in the U-17 National Competition and was selected into the Young Matildas.

In the same year, she traveled to Malaysia with the Young Matilda squad for the AFC under 20 Qualifiers and scored 5 goals for the tournament, playing alongside teammates Kyah Simon, Tameka Butt and Sam Kerr.

2008 was the first year of the Australian W-league and she was one of the youngest players selected for her hometown team, Adelaide United.

She is one of two players that has played for United all 5 W-league seasons. In her second season she was awarded the most valuable player award for Adelaide United and is the highest goal scorer for the club. In the 2011-2012 season, she was awarded the Goal of the Year with a spectacular overhead goal.

"I'm really looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life," Quigley said. "Kansas City Shock is definitely the best start I could have ever imagined. Given the chance to play a new style of soccer with an entirely new team is real exciting. Im hoping to learn heaps from this experience and give the team everything I have to be successful in the WPSL. I am a very passionate player and cannot wait to share my enthusiasm with my new team."

"Most people never get to live their dreams, so I'm so excited that Racheal can follow hers and be apart of a new a era in women's soccer in Kansas City," said Quigley's mother, Beverly. "After all the hard work she has put into her soccer career, she is starting to get the benefits. It also helps that I will be able to follow everything closely even tho I'm thousands of miles away through social media. It's just the icing on the cupcake!!"

The coaches and staff at the Kansas City Shock are highly anticipating great things from Racheal this season and are looking forward to the element she will bring to the squad.

"I'm excited to have Racheal join the Shock this summer," said Head Coach Nicole Ortiz. "As an overseas player, she will bring a different dynamic to the game of soccer in the US. She has a positive attitude that will be contagious to the entire Shock program."

Bringing international players in always presents hurdles, but the both the Shock and Quigley are enthusiastic about the challenge as the rewards will undoubtedly outweigh the struggles.

"Moving to the States is a big deal," said Quigley. "It's been my dream since I can remember. Crazy what social networking can do! Most likely going to freak out when I notice everyone driving on the wrong side of the road though. I love meeting new people and I'm most excited to entertain the people of Kansas City and really SHOCK the soccer world."

Well done Racheal. Wishing you well. Knock em dead.

SAd our players need to leave Oz to puruse a worthwhile playing career however. the experience (and hopefully a college scholarship???) will make the experience pay off.
