One of the most entertaining, enjoyable Australia games I have seen in a while. We actually look really sharp for once.

Full time... Blown as Honda was lining up for a free kick...

Fair enough result.

Pity it was almost entirely decided by the ref.

A fantastic game and a fighting effort by Australia...Australia definitely the better side while it was 11 v 11....

Honda is an unbelievable player, great to watch.

Proud of this team the way they played.

Fact is, Cahill missed a sitter in the first five.

Leckie 2011/12 games 19 goals 2
Kruse 2011/12 games 13 goals 0.

Why would you pick Kruse? Infact the kid has played more Socceroo games then games for his club? WTF!

Must say we are not a patch on 2010 or 2006 very little depth - Milligan was shocking not sure where Holman was? Having said that heart goes a long way even at the highest level

How are you going to explain the penalty then?
Time for some righteous indignation

entertaining game even if the ref made some bizarre decisions, some real endeavor showed by the Aussies. If they keep that sort of play up they should qualify easy enough.

The Boys did play well, but gee! let's score some goals other than by penalties.

given this result, my claims of botched tactics in oman are further enhanced

would be good to see holman, herd, kennedy, williams and mcgowan in the side

I think I read somewhere that Holman was back in Holland where the wifey was popping out a wriggler. Congrats to them

Its a shame the game wasn't played in Melbourne 40,000 is an ok crowd but would have got 70,000 plus in Melbourne

Agree, MG & Son.

But maybe if they had held it in the reconfigurable-to-a-rectangle Olympic (ANZ) stadium in Sydney, I still reckon they might have got close to 80,000 with great close-in atmosphere. Let's face it Japan was always going to be our blockbuster in this group, not the likes of Jordan or Oman. That's why I was surprised they took it to Suncorp.

At a pinch Iraq could be perhaps be regarded as a big one, but I doubt they'll draw a huge crowd like Uruguay in 2005 and Iran in 1997.

And talking of Iran, what a pity they weren't in our group for yet another blockbuster. How come we got Oman in this 2nd round after having them in the preliminary round? What happened to the AFC's decree that teams wouldn't face each other again in the next round and will be plonked into opposite 2nd round groups?

Yeah, I was always worried when Brisbane got this game, I remember watching Australia v China in a 'dead rubber' in Sydney and there being over 70,000 - pitch was also in appalling condition

A much better game than what i was expecting, probably unlucky not to win as we had plenty of chances. Not sure about some of Holger's decisions though :/

There were at least 4 big decisions the ref got wrong

1) Milligan send off
2) Australia penalty
3) Straight after the penalty same player knocked ball away with hand - free kick no booking?
4) Japan send off

Oh then the whole free kick thing at the end

Keep saying it with the amount of errors its suspicious or the worst Asian world cup qualifier performance in years by a referee for both sides
