Advocaat Says No to Socceroos

Post by Vaguely »

The chase for a new Socceroos coach will begin again, with long-time manager-elect grenache Advocaat deciding to stick with Russian club Zenit.

Advocaat, believed to have signed with the Football Federation in August, was to have taken over this weekend, now that his commitments to Zenit have ended. However, Advocaat has reportedly signed a new deal with the Russian club.

“We are having discussions with Dick’s lawyers and Zenit about it,â€￾ FFA chief executive Ben Buckley told AAP.

“We have already spoken to their legal guy and the club itself and we will have more discussions with them.â€￾

Australia plays its first world cup qualifier in February, its first ever in the Asian group, with the FFA staring at the prospect of having to start its process over.

Graham Arnold vacated his post after the recent friendly against Argentina. Rob Baan is in charge of the Socceroos for tomorrow’s (AEST) clash with Nigeria on London. Neither are being considered for the full time role.

lol, the socceroos got snaked hard

honestly, what top manager would want to be a plan B for a country like Australia just because advocaat (who isnt quite world class) rejected them?

plenty of top names out there but I cant see australia signing any of them

I can't see why Rob Baan isn't being considered for the top job. Surely he has the experience. doesn't he?

there is one man the FFA should target

Johan Cruff

all he does is walks his dog in spain everyday

he was a world class player and has coached at the top level with barcelona and has won many laliga titles with barcelona not to mention a european cup also

this is your man, FFA

Craig Foster.

The guy pretty much is perfect so why not give him a chance.

Then we can bash him like crap if he fails and then the media can give him a taste of his own medicine.

That's an interesting suggestion. I think he's one of the best pundits that Australia has ever had, but being a good observer of the game doesn't necessarily make a good coach. I guess one question would be does he have it in him to fire up the players?

article in todays rag mentions Zico as a possible.

Has World Cup experience as player and coach (of Japan) so would have to be a contender one would think

If you want someone to look after player development, Cruff is your man
