Div 1 - Div 2 Sunday whats going to happen??

Post by LRO »

What happens if a Sunday Div 1 team pulls out of the competition???

Does 1 team that was relegated in 2016 stay up?

Do the top 3 teams from Div 2 in 2016 go up?

Wow, so are they folding? Or moving to a lower division on Saturdays?

I did hear a rumour that half their side was training with Florina and at this stage they only have 16 players.

Why would any committee give someone a senior coaching job when they already have one

As an ex Grove member I can recall when they imploded last time which resulted in a mass exodus of players. They stayed in the first division but got beaten by cricket scores every week. They got relegated most years until reaching a low of fourth division. A loyal few members remained with the club and built it back up. I have a distinct feeling of dejavu and suspect they didnt learn from mistakes made last time. They always suffered from politics, they lacked transparency and experienced power struggles with individuals/groups within the club. Its a shame because it used to be a great club (back in the Fairfield Rd days).

The club is still paying for those mistakes, they split with their juniors and lost a generation of supporters and players, I hope they can recover as they still have some goood people down there.

We got hammered by the bigger clubs, Downs, Gardens and Inter and it entailed a lot of trips North in 2014 and 2015...( meanwhile the Northern clubs complain about the 1 trip South).
Southern Knights started in Division 6 ... 22 seasons ago and have been promoted several times due to teams dropping out or moving to Saturdays.....2015 was the first time the Club had dealt with relegation.
Not sure what's happening at this stage.....haven't heard from the SAASL and haven't had the discussion at our club should the opportunity be there.

Just read the grove junior facebook page and saw they have 27 junior teams, looks like they are still a very strong club. Maybe just a shift in focus with the club.

Elizabeth Grove have significant numbers in junior players, I expect they have a plan in action for this new move!
SA AMPOL CUP WINNERS 1993
FIFA CONFEDS CUP RUNNER UP 1997
OFC NATIONS CUP 2000
LEAGUE CUP RUNNERS UP 2001
PlAYOFF FINALS WINNER 2003

Why do clubs complain about road trips? I loved traveling.

They have been 1 club for about 4 or 5 years

The Grove Comittee have released a statement saying that they are off to Saturday league for the betterment of the club. Reserve coach to take over from Wester,s due to his fed gig. Sorry to see the Peckers go a great bunch of lads and here's to playing them with our Saturday side sometime. One less derby for the Eluzabeth clubs. Bring on Swannsong's Knights to fill the void...

Interesting to know if your committee considered staying put in div2? thinking if your not able to adequately recruit then it could actually be damaging longer term should you have a bad 2017 - as opposed to building momentum and being prepared fully for Div1.

Surely the clubs in the 'big boys division' can all field 3 teams?
