Para Hills East ( 2 ) Southern Knights ( 5 ) ...with pics

SAASL Sunday Division 2 - Round 5

Para Hills East ( 2 ) Southern Knights ( 5 )
R. Thurston ...................... Tom Foglia 3
B. Smith .......................... David Mooney
......................................Chris Bradley

A game of two halves has never been truer that at Para Hills Oval today with Southern Knights turning around a 2-0 deficit into a convincing 2-5 victory.
Para Hills East grabbed a very early lead after only 2 minutes before stretching their lead further about 20 minutes in.
Knights were missing keeper Stephen Maguire (injured) and Jimmy Stewart (unknown) but had Ben Vidgeon and Iain Stewart to fill the vacancies.
Para Hills East closed Knights down quickly, won many of the early tackling contests and just overall seemed to have more drive.
After the break the momentum swung Knights way as they dominated the aerial challenges and opened up East more, particularly after a second yellow left the home side with only 10 men.
Tom Foglia, having opened up his goal account last week, grabbed a well earned hat trick, Chris Bradley added a goal and David Mooney chipped in with another.
Iain Stewart playing all but 10 minutes of 2 full games has to be commended on his efforts and some fine saves from Ben Vidgeon kept Knights in the game in the first half.

PS. Thanks to PHE for the best burger I've had for a long time. :D

Reserves
Para Hills East ( 1 ) Southern Knights ( 2 )
P. Astley...........................Charlie Hollis
......................................Dustin McMahon

A rare win for Southern Knights against Para Hills East Reserves...the last two visits there have resulted in 8-0 and 9-0 losses.
The game was fairly well balanced with both teams going close on several occasions with Para Hills East grabbing the lead in about the 70th minute.
Charlie Hollis replied immediately finishing well to grab a goal and a short while later was upended resulting in Dustin McMahon converting from the penalty spot
and East being reduced to 10 men for the last 10 minutes.

Great job swanny as always.
I couldnt make it Sunday which was very disppointing! Iit was a good match up pregame.
That result could have really cemented our spot with the leading pack. I do feel as though this is going to be a very tight season. Once injuries, suspensions etc all kick in and test the depth of squads it will start to seperate in half.
Knights have got some very experienced guys out there. There would have to be 6 first team players in those photo's that I recognise from being there for the past 6 + years.
More interesting games this weekend. Its going to be an interesting year thats for sure! Just hope I can get involved at some stage :(

Pretty much the same core players at Knights for several years augmented by some good talent in Tom Foglia, Robert Marsden, Aaron O'Toole and Jimmy Stewart (all played last season) and with Jamie Faulkner, Iain Stewart and Charlie Hollis in their first season at Knights.
Cheers East Boy, the opposite could be said of East, not many out there I recognised from previous encounters....good young side.
Injuries, possible suspensions and scheduled holidays will play a part in how Knights 'travel' in 2013..

Saggs boys are still at the club. Andy is captain this year but was missing at the weekend. Unfortunately for Chrissy he has had a bit of a cursed run with injury. Don't know about going strong Lisbon but he's still going haha
