The long coach ride to O’Sullivan Beach reaped a good catch of points for Modbury Vista as both their A’s and B’s, with 1-2 victories, took maximum points from Southern Knights.
Modbury appeared just a bit hungrier (and thirstier
) on the day and Knights were still looking to fill the forward vacancy left by Matt Daughtry. David Mooney covered nearly every metre of the ground as Mick Paay, Lee White, Paul Martin, Richard Kemp and Glen Crute were kept on their toes dealing with the pace of Vista’s Robbie Williams and the overlapping Michael McGivern. Peter “PC” Carman was solid at the back for Vista keeping tabs on Knights Matt Harrison and Scott Bradley.Vista took an early 0-1 lead in the first half but, to Knights credit, they gradually pushed the visitors onto the back foot with Ben Jones and Chris Bradley putting in the yards and solid tackles. Steve Maguire (dubbed Magiver by the opposition crowd ) linked in well with his defense to distribute the ball effectively.
Vista took their 0-1 lead to half time and it seemed that Knights may break through at any stage until a little misjudgement offered an opportunity for Robbie Williams to stretch their lead to 0-2. Ben Jones succumbed to an ankle injury and was replaced by Lyndon Parry and Edin Skrijelj came on for Richard Kemp. With about 8 minutes remaining Lyndon Parry was on hand to grab a goal for Knights to give hope of rescuing a draw but Vista held on to take all three points.
Results today appear to have tightened up the Division 2 mid table...

With a few players away or injured, Southern Knights were a bit light on the ground today and were able to push Vista all of the way. Vista grabbed a 0-1 lead before half time but Knights fought back to level the game at 1-1 with a goal from substitute Dustin McMahon. The game was evenly balanced until an excellent Vista strike from ~25 metres left Knights keeper Phil Smith with little hope as it sailed into the top left hand corner of the net late in the second half.
