Southern Knights ( 1 ) Brahma Lodge ( 1 ) ....wth pics

Southern Knights ( 1 ) Brahma Lodge ( 1 )
Matt Daughtry T.O.G.

Was a hard fought game at O'Sullivan Beach with Matt Daughtry, David Mooney, Chris Bradley and Matt Harrison creating chances up front for Southern Knights despite Knights looking a bit unsettled in defense. Jason Rusk and Ben Jones covered a lot of ground in midfield but couldn't get into the game fully as many passes bypassed the midfield area. Steve Maguire and David Mooney started the game at a frenetic pace delivering some good through balls and solid tackles and Ben Slater looked in control in goals.
Knights opened the game up early when David Mooney pushed down the left and delivered a great centred pass for Matt Daughtry to slot passed Brahma's keeper. Defenders Paul Martin, Lee White and Glen Crute handle Brahma's forward quite well although the exaggerated bounce created some problems. Unfortunately, Brahma's Mark Beck suffered a head injury during a heading challenge and had to leave the field. An innocuous attacking foray delivered Brahma Lodge an equaliser with almost the last touch before half time...an out of breath David Mooney unluckily headed the ball over Ben Slater into his own net.
After the break Knights, minus Paul Martin (injury - replaced by Scott Bradley) pushed Brahma for most of the half but more often than not persisted with long searching passes to try and break the deadlock. Micky Paay came on for the injured Matt Daughtry and later in the game Justin Moule came on for Matt Harrison, who had performed well all day.

Brahma Lodge defense tries to find a way through Matt Daughtry.. as Matt Harrison made his presence felt all day !

David Mooney was solid in his tackling and outstanding with his arial challenges.

All eyes on the ball as David Mooney (11) nearly redeems himself at the start of the second half.

Brahma Lodge's keeper had a good day between the sticks, nullifying many of Knights attacking runs.

There was always a feeling that Knights might rue their missed opportunities with a late Brahma push forward.

Reserves
Southern Knights ( 4 ) Brahma Lodge ( 2 )
Justin Moule 2, Alex Field, Steve Fulton
Strange game in the Reserves today...Brahma established a 2 goal lead with some excellent finishing. Knights had chances early but it took Alex Field (formerly Hills Districs) scoring his first goal for Southern Knights, to peg the scoreline back to 1-2 where it remained until half time.
Didn't get too see much of what happened after the second half resumed....my understanding of what happened ( there will probably be other versions ) was that Southern Knights were awarded a penalty and Brahma Lodge had 2 players sent off (1 for handball and one for dissent - I think ??) . The penalty kick was taken once...Brahma player encroached into the area and it was retaken...when retaken Southern Knights scored but a Knights player encroached into the area and the Referee (who was under some duress from the players and sidelines at the time) awarded a goalkick
Phil Smith pulled off some excellent saves for Knights and with the extra players Knights eventually overan Lodge following goals from Steve Fulton and 2 from substitute (and honeymoon returnee) Justin Moule.

The reserves encounter started with end-to end football and opportunities for both teams.

Andrew O'Malley's back !

A little mid-game shut-eye for Steve Fulton !

Knights Ben Vidgeon and Lodge's Chris Groom had a good, solid contest all day

Paul Thompson just misses a chance to pen Knights account but moments later Alex Field slots home from a narrow angle.

Sam Jones and Edin Skrijelj (3) congratulate Alex Field on his first goal for Southern Knights.

A missed opportunity for Knights.

Goal of the day to Justin Moule who chipped Brahma's keeper with a 20 metre back-heel !

yea not a great start to the season but as you said its early times, there are some promising signs there and can only get better. we have to get that first win then i think will be alright, is a tough division but thats the way you want things to be, can only get stronger..

Tony - good to see you and Vinnie, hope your over 35's have a home game when we visit, so I can catch up with a few more old Celtic Bhoys

Hope Becky recovers soon, our Centre Forward was also a bit concussed and had to come off in second half, was a hard clash

Good luck for the rest of the year (except when you play us)
