Re: Capello quits?

My prediction

Redknapp wont be released by Spurs during season and wont want him taking on 2 roles.

Hiddink will get appointed for Euro's and Redknapp to take over after to lead into the World Cup.

Re: Blatter to scrap drawn games in group stages of WC final

didn't we have something like this during the NSL?
any draw would go to penalty shoot-outs. i think this only lasted a season during the west-adelaide days.

im sure though that if the government put enough pressure on foxtel to alter the contract to get back at least the asia cup, i think an agreement could be met. even if it means the government paying a little compensation to ensure that all australians can view an australian icon. im just furious ...

thats true, and like you said a petition isn't going to do much. so why not aim for a high and negotiate a decent outcome (like the asia cup on free-to-air)

if the petition receives tremendous support, surely the government would have to reconsider its current stance.

i just thought it would be interesting for people to read. im a strong supporter on having the socceroo's on free-to-air tv, i mean, could you image the uproar if the ashes was on foxtel, or the international rugby games? i think its important we get the socceroo's back on free-to-air tv so that all ...

Help get the Socceroo's back on Free-to-air!

Help get the Socceroo's back on Free-To-Air!

As you may already know, Howard has refused to protect the Socceroo's from only being showed on pay-tv. Steve Georganas has released this media release today to bring OUR Socceroo's back to free-to-air TV.

Please help the Socceroo's stay free-to-air for all games, not just for the world cup every 4 years. We want to be able to watch OUR socceroo's win in Asia!

Print this out, bring it to the games, get as many people to sign (your friends, family... everybody!) and send to the corresponding details at the bottom of the page.

Download the petition by clicking on this link.

Steve Georganas's Media Release regarding bringing back the Socceroo's to free-to-air TV

30 November 2006

NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR SOCCEROOS’ RETURN TO FREE-TO-AIR TV

The Federal Government’s support of subscription TV’s dominance in broadcasting international football matches featuring the Socceroos has prompted a national campaign by Federal Labor MPs to voice concerns of Australia’s sport-loving community.

Steve Georganas MP, Federal Member for Hindmarsh, is launching a petition before the Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory game being played Friday December 1 at Hindmarsh Stadium, Adelaide, enabling the public to express their desire for the federal Minister for Communications, Senator Coonan, to increase the televising of Socceroos matches on free-to-air television through the anti-siphoning list.

The minister has previously ignored advice from the Australian Broadcasting Authority to protect Socceroo matches by use of the list, and allowed all World Cup qualifying rounds to be bought-up by subscription television.

“People from all walks of life became obsessed with our Socceroos’ progress in this year’s World Cup – even the Prime Minister.

“The government has the power to protect such events from being bought-up by pay-TV through anti-siphoning rules – rules that Minister Coonan acknowledges are for protecting the public’s access to nationally important or culturally significant events.

“She refused to protect the Socceroos. She obviously considers such competitions not to be nationally important or culturally significant.

“She now needs to understand that the Australian public does not agree with her.

“Anyone who bothered to listen to the public would hear very clearly that they want the Socceroos on free-to-air TV,â€￾ Steve Georganas said.

“The minister and her government must acknowledge that Australia’s international football events are events of national importance and cultural significance through returning competitions involving Australia’s Socceroos to free-to-air television at the earliest opportunity.â€￾
