Perth Glory is shocked and disappointed with the FFA independent Match review panels (MRP) decision to suspend Michael Baird for two matches.

The club is also saddened that there is no natural justice and avenue of appeal.

Perth Glory will be seeking to explore all options.

Below is a copy of the MRP verdict.

The circumstances surrounding the penalty awarded to Michael Baird (Perth Glory) in or around the 92nd minute of Perth Glory’s match against Melbourne Heart on Sunday. The MRP considered whether the player had committed an act of simulation that was not detected by the referee during the match. In doing so the MRP determined that the player committed simulation and accordingly the MRP imposed a sanction of two (2) matches. This is the mandatory sanction prescribed under the A-League Disciplinary Regulations for such an offence.

Robbie Fowler has opened his account for Perth Glory, nailing an injury-time penalty to give his side a 2-2 draw with Melbourne Heart at AAMI Park on Sunday evening.

In a dramatic and entertaining encounter, the struggling Heart stunned the league leaders in the fourth minute as Gerald Sibon drove home an early penalty after Alex Terra was fouled by Naum Sekulovski in the box.

The Glory responded through a bizarre Michael Marrone own goal, but Heart re-took the lead through Nick Kalmar's clinical strike and looked like holding onto the advantage as they stared down one Glory attack after another in the second period.

But just when it appeared Heart had weathered the storm, Glory debutant Michael Baird was brought down by a Kliment Taseski challenge in the box, allowing the man known as God to step up and drive home a deserved equaliser during the third minute of added time.

"We never stopped working and I'm very proud of the boys," Glory skipper Jacob Burns said after the game. ...

Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell feels Sunday’s game in week 4 against Melbourne Heart will test the depth of his squad.

With Chris Coyne, Victor Sikora, Mile Sterjovski, Jamie Harnwell and Andy Todd missing, plus the club still waiting for Michael Baird’s provisional clearance to arrive, Mitchell has limited options.

“The thing is some of it is not down to injury which is annoying but we just have to get on with it.

“The one advantage is, it does give other players an opportunity to stake a claim,” Mitchell said.

For Baird, the waiting game continues, his contract dispute with his former Romanian club Universtatea Craiova still in the hands of FIFA.

“It’s frustrating how one player at another club, in the same situation was cleared two weeks ago but we can’t get Michael free to play.”

The Melbourne Heart will also be missing a trio of big names with John Aloisi, Josip Skoko and Michael Beauchamp all ruled out because of injury. ...

The Perth Glory Football club is pleased to announce that veteran Jamie Harnwell has signed a new deal with the club for 2010/11 season.

And in a double coup for the club, Rangers legend Ian Ferguson has also agreed terms to join Dave Mitchell as an assistant.

Having played 235 games in eleven seasons for the Glory, Harnwell is now set to over-take Bobby Despotovski (241 games) as the club’s games record holder.

“It will be a huge thing for me.

“Bobby is a good friend of mine, a fantastic player and if I get the record it will be a real treat.

“I didn’t want to end up the way I finished this season. I was very disappointed in how my body went and how we exited the finals.

“I’ve got some big goals for next season. I want to finish top goal scorer again and try and get a hat-trick of those and obviously win the Hyundai A-League,” Harnwell said. ...

Adelaide United FC's finals aspirations have taken a heartbreaking turn for the worse, after the Reds fell 3-2 to Perth Glory in an enthralling encounter at Hindmarsh Stadium tonight.

Up against a Perth side occupying the all important sixth spot, United pulled out to a two goal lead as midfield livewire Mathew Leckie inspired some of the Reds’ most exciting football, which had the Reds faithful in full voice and believing finals were still very much on the agenda.

But just as it looked to be the resurgence of United’s season, it all vanished as Perth found three goals in a devastating 15 minute period in the second half, which was triggered after the send off of Reds defender Iain Fyfe.

Two of United’s longest serving players gave the Reds the two goal buffer, Lucas Pantelis opening the scoring with a freak goal in the 13th minute, before Captain Travis Dodd made it 2-nil in the 57th minute with his third in as many games. ...

Adelaide United FC’s Women’s Team will be wondering what more they have to do to score their first win of the season, after they went down 1-nil to Perth Glory Women at Hindmarsh Stadium in Round 4 of the Westfield W-League.

After a dominant first half display and numerous goal scoring opportunities, The Lady Reds did everything but find the back of the net, Perth taking the points courtesy of a 48th minute strike from Alexandra Singer.

As a first win and first goal still elude the Lady Reds, Coach Mike Barnett was again left to reflect on another spirited performance without anything to show for it.

“It’s becoming a bit of a broken record, the girls performed very well and created chances, and they’re obviously devastated because I thought we dominated the game,” Barnett said.

“They (Perth) had some chances in the second half but I thought we were definitely good for a point.” ...

Perth Glory has jumped to outright second on the Hyundai A-League and extended their unbeaten run to five matches after a pulsating 1-0 victory against rivals Adelaide United at ME Bank Stadium.

Young goalkeeper Tando Velaphi was the hero for the Glory as he repelled a sharpshooting Reds outfit determined to continue their recent dominance over Perth. Velaphi pulled off a number of fantastic saves while at the other end it was enterprising Dutchman Victor Sikora who scored the winner.

‘It was great to keep a clean sheet. Tando was outstanding tonight, some of his saves were top drawer and it reinforced just how good he is,” Coach Dave Mitchell said.

“There has been some pressure on him from outside the club this season but we know his quality and I thought he was outstanding, it’s a credit to him.

“He has played plenty of good games for club but tonight was probably the best. ...

Adelaide United Captain Travis Dodd’s 100th Hyundai A-League appearance has failed to produce a fairytale finish after The Reds went down 1-nil to Perth Glory at ME Bank Stadium on Friday night (9 October 2009).

In Dodd’s milestone match, The Reds were brave but could not get the right result as Perth keeper Tando Velaphi reeled off a number of saves to keep United out before Dutchman Victor Sikora netted the winner in the 80th minute.

In the lead up, Reds Coach Aurelio Vidmar emphasised the need for his team to start hitting more shots on target, and the message must have got through as United fired nine shots on Perth’s goal, but were left unrewarded despite their efforts.

“Velaphi was outstanding, that’s why you’ve got a goalkeeper in the team,” Vidmar said.

“It was very hard to take because we dominated the game and unfortunately the only area we didn’t dominate was on the score sheet.” ...
