On the day when Australians turn their focus to ‘the race that stops the nation’, the Adelaide United stable has all of its runners fit and available for Friday night’s crunch game against Melbourne Heart.

While all eyes on the first Tuesday in November turn to Flemington and the Melbourne Cup, at Hindmarsh Stadium the Reds went about their business on the training track as they try to get their season back on the rails.

Coming off a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of reigning champions Brisbane Roar, if there was ever a week when the Reds would welcome some good news this is it, and it has come at just the right time for Head Coach Rini Coolen.

Rarely do coaches have the luxury of having everyone fit and up for selection, but as United prepares for the visit of the winless Heart, this is exactly the situation Coolen has in front of him.

All 21 players on the Reds’ list are injury free, with arguably the most notable inclusion being the return of striker Bruce Djite. ...

Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory-2007 no2.jpg
Adelaide United FC has responded from its opening weekend disappointment in the best way possible by defeating Melbourne Victory 1-0 at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Inspired by the debut performance of Dario Vidosic, the Reds made it three wins in succession against the Victory, Sergio van Dijk netting the winner and his first of the season in the 52nd minute.

Van Dijk’s breakthrough came just minutes before Melbourne were restricted to ten men following the send off of captain Adrian Leijer for a second bookable offence. The Reds then used their extra player advantage to turn the screws as they produced some sublime interplay in the attacking third during a period that could have stretched their lead.

However, with the likes of Harry Kewell, Archie Thompson, Marco Rojas and Carlos Hernandez, the Victory were always going to threaten and were not without their chances in a tense 90 minutes. ...

Perth Glory.jpg
A 76th minute header from Perth Glory striker Billy Mehmet has condemned Adelaide United FC to a 1-0 defeat at nib Stadium in the Reds’ opening match of the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 Season.

In a match that saw the Reds starting eleven comprising of seven new faces from the one that ran out in the club’s final game of last season, Mehmet’s second half goal ended United’s stubborn resistance as the Glory enjoyed the more chances, particularly in the opening 45 minutes.

The new look Reds appeared to take time to adjust as Perth turned up the heat early, the Glory’s Brazilian signing Andrezinho proving a constant danger down the left hand side.

Fortunate to still be level at half time, the break gave the Reds and Head Coach Rini Coolen a chance to regroup, and in the second half United were not without their opportunities, however they could not break through. ...
