Adelaide United FC made it a night to remember as it put to bed a nine game losing streak against the Central Coast Mariners with a 4-0 win at Coopers Stadium.

The Reds finally reaped the rewards that appeared to have been coming after a number of highly encouraging displays in previous weeks, goals from Bruce Djite, Fabio Ferreira, Sergio Cirio and Jeronimo giving the club its biggest ever win over the Mariners and their first triumph against the reigning champions since January 2009.

In a season where luck has often not been on the Reds’ side, everything went the home side’s way as they celebrated their second win, and first clean sheet of the season.

Delighted Coach Josep Gombau said the result was credit for the belief and hard work his players have put in as well as for the Reds faithful that have stuck by the team during a lean spell of results since the opening round.

“I’m very happy to win, very happy for the players and the fans more than anybody,” Gombau said. ...

Despite an illustrious playing career at the height of Australian football, there remains a burning desire for South Australian football icon Sergio Melta to conquer another facet of the game - coaching.

While he never played overseas like several Australian football stars, Melta is recognised as one of the country's greatest ever midfielders.

Melta, who was crowned the National Soccer League's best player in 1984, won three NSL titles and two national cups with Adelaide City, and ranks fifth on the all-time list of national league appearances with a staggering 445.

He also represented the Qantas Socceroos and has a medal named in his honour which is awarded to the South Australian Premier League's player of the year.

But while Melta has a decorated resume, a coaching role at the elite level is absent from it. ...

Adelaide United fans are in shock today at the sudden resignation of coach John Kosmina.

Rumours have been swirling around the local football community over recent days but there are always rumours surrounding any football club. However the rumours bea more public profile when Andy Harper alluded to there being something awry behind the scenes at Adelaide United during the coverage of Friday nights game against Central Coast Mariners.

Following Friday nights game there was a sudden surprise press release targeting at refuting speculation about the coaching position at Adelaide United and confirming Kosimina was the head coach until the end of the season.

Fast forward another day and John Kosmina has released his own statement advising that he has resigned as coach of Adelaide United. In true Kosmina fashion, he has resigned with the same passion he has always put into his performances both as a player and as a coach. ...

Jeronimo Neumann’s second half goal has helped Adelaide United FC to consecutive wins to start the season as the Reds inflicted the first defeat on new Hyundai A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers in a 1-0 result at Hindmarsh Stadium tonight.

The Argentinean’s clinical 70th minute finish decided a game that took until the second half to really come to life.

It could have been a different story after Neumann had a penalty saved by Ante Covic only five minutes earlier, but the Reds’ number 21 would not be denied as he finished off a superb counter attack as the home side pounced from a Wanderers corner.

The Reds’ three new foreigners – Neumann, Fabio Ferreira and Marcelo Carusca, all showed they will be more than capable of causing problems for opposition defences this season, while at the other end of the park the Reds can boast back to back clean sheets, something they failed to do during the entirety of last season. ...

Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory-2007 no2.jpg
The depth, talent and balance of Adelaide United FC’s squad will be put into action tomorrow night at Hindmarsh Stadium when dashing winger Fabio Ferreira makes his starting debut as the Reds attempt to make it two from two when they face the Hyundai A-League’s newest club, Western Sydney Wanderers.

Ferreira’s opportunity comes after Coach John Kosmina ruled Dario Vidosic out of the match after the influential midfielder left the track early complaining of hamstring tightness this morning.

Considering the Reds’ heavy workload over the past fortnight with the ACL Quarter Final in Uzbekistan followed by last Sunday’s away win over the Newcastle Jets, Kosmina has decided not to risk a less than fully fit Vidosic.

“His hamstring tightened up again, the same one he’s had issues with in the past,” Kosmina said of Vidosic. ...

A stunning 88th minute goal from substitute Billy Mehmet secured a dramatic victory for Perth Glory in Sunday’s Grand Final re-match with Brisbane Roar at Paterson’s Stadium, Subiaco.

Glory had enjoyed the better of a feisty contest but looked set to have to settle for a share of the spoils until the overlapping Scott Jamieson whipped in a superb cross from the left and Mehmet produced a classic centre-forward’s header to power the ball into the far corner of the net.

Fifteen of the players who started last season’s Suncorp decider backed up at Patersons Stadium and while clear-cut goalscoring opportunities were at a premium throughout, there was no shortage of tension and talking points to keep a vocal home crowd enthralled right to the end. ...

Adelaide United FC has produced a spirited and character filled performance as it opened its Hyundai A-League 2012/13 Season with a 2-0 victory over the Newcastle Jets at Hunter Stadium this afternoon.

A Dario Vidosic goal after just 58 seconds gave the Reds a flying start before Iain Ramsay continued his recent purple patch in front of goal with the second in the 75th minute to get Adelaide’s domestic campaign off with a precious three points away from home.

Making the result even more impressive is that the Reds only touched down back in Australia yesterday morning from their ACL Quarter Final against Bunyodkor in Tashkent last Wednesday night, a fact that certainly did not go unnoticed by Coach John Kosmina after the game.

“It has been a long week and I think it probably showed in some moments during the game we were a bit fatigued but for the guys to get through after what they did on Wednesday night – get through 120 minutes and then with all of the travel we’ve had, it has been a ...

Hyundai Motor Company Australia has announced a four-year extension to its partnership with Football Federation Australia (FFA) for the naming rights to the top-flight of Australian soccer.

Having penned the original partnership deal in 2004, the new agreement extends the partnership between the Hyundai and the A-League until 2016.

Though financial details of the extension were not released, Hyundai's previous multi-year commitment reportedly saw the car manufacturer committing roughly US$10 million to the FFA over the course of the deal's four-year tenure

Adelaide United are through to the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League after a 1-0 win over Nagoya Grampus at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Adelaide scored the only goal through Jon McKain, who lurked on the line at a corner just before half-time and turned the ball into the net after it ricocheted to his feet.

The Reds spent the majority of the second half fending off Nagoya's attacks. Nagoya hit the woowork from a freekick in stoppage time.

Fortune was on Adelaide's side as the ref delighted the fans by blowing the final whistle.
