So, the man who is going off to be Morocco Under 20 coach has made his decisions. Questions pop up everywhere! And did you ever hear a coach make so many excuses for his selections?
4-2-3-1, so how does Mcdonald fit into that when EVERYONE says he can only operate with 2 up front. Will speedy "Jesus Christ" Kennedy terrorise those German, Ghanaian and Serbian central animal defenders? Energetic Joel Griffiths could have had his temper tamed by Aussie Pim - that was the coach's job to harness the energy and include him.
Beauchamp brittle as ever and has hardly played. Sasa is head and shoulders above him. And don't believe the stuff about the Ogre refusing to play for us and opting to play for F.Y.R.O.M. (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia). He hadn't played for them and was not tied to them. All Pimmy had to do was make him feel wanted. His man-management failed.
He broke his own selection criteria of playing and training regularly in an overseas league- not training for a State QLD League side (as Moore is). Good riddance, Pim

Agreed don't rate Pim at all, with the squad he had playing the teams we did it was like Man Utd playing in the A-League, yet we struggled in most games and played the most boring conservative Football ever -

Also agree with this. Top Gun Jimmy could've qualified the socceroos for South Africa. Qualification wasnt exactly brutal by any stretch.

Milligan went to 2006 world cup and still has only 9 caps to his name, I wonder how many as a sub,
Surely Sasa Og or Spiranovic would be better options? these 2 are better than Jade North and Beauchamp also,
Forget home-town sentiment, Galekovic is 4th choice cause he plays for Adelaide Utd compared to overseas based keepers.
Neil Kilkenny better than Brett Holman?

Neil Kilkenny is hardly better than Holman.
Holman has pace and drive, 2 things which Kilkenny lacks.
As a United supporter, i have watched Kilkenny, throughout the season, and most recently the last 2 games aired on Fox and im afraid he's backseat passenger status, is going to fault him in gaining a new contract next year.
I am happy about Nicky Carle coming in, deserves it, he has been unfairly treated for a long time. Sasa Ognenovski should be there too, Im sure Pim has his reasons for not choosing him, they have a pool of over hundreds of players, who ply there trade overseas, so im sure, Pim has a reason. Goodluck to him, looks like we are going to be relying on the Awesome Foursome again, Cahill, Kewell, Neill and Schwarzer.

Once this World Cup is over, I cannot wait for Ognenovski, Bosnar, Carle, Richard Porta and Griffiths to be looked at from a neutral perspective.
Verbeek should have been sensible and acted with integrity and selflessness in picking this squad. Not choosing in-form players (Ogne) and players with the characteristics we need to beat the German and Serbian defence (Griffiths) is not in the best interests of himself, the squad, or the nation.
The results will tell the tale at the end of the day. But for one, I am disappointed I will potentially be watching Beauchamp & Holman against Serbia when I'm there, because I know they're both donkeys (and 95% of the population agrees).
BTW Beauchamp would have never been a Socceroo if it wasn't for Graham Arnold. Thanks Arnie, your legacy lives on.

eugene needs to leave AU, simple as that. the championship is a better league than the A-league hence why federeci and jones got the nod. the longer he stays the longer he holds back his real potential. its a shame as i think he could play at a higher level and hope he does one day

unfortunately for AU, I tend to agree...

its not a strong as squad as 2006 but i think its a good mix of youth and experience that can get some good results in South Africa.

I think Pim has selected a good squad given the options available.
It is not as strong as the 2006 squad in terms of the starting 11 but it may actually have a little more depth.
The real positives:
- no Archie Thompson and no Simon Colosimo who have had too many opportunities and are proven as non-performers at international level.
- great to see Richard Garcia selected - he adds some much needed depth to the squad
- great to see Nick Carle selected - he adds depth and gives Pim something different in the squad
- great to see Shane Lowry selected - he is a highly regarded defender and will be a key player in future Socceroo squads
- great to see Scott Macdonald selected - he has a poor record for the Socceroos but we have a real shortage of any quality strikers. He provides Pim with an alternative experienced striker. Plus if John Aloisi can score a cracker goal at the 2006 World Cup Finals then so can Scott Macdonald.
- squad is a good mix of experience and youth
The negatives:
- Mark Milligan - he has struggled since the Asian Cup - will probably be cut but then maybe this is the boost he needs to get himself back on track.
- Michael Beachamp - has failed to live up to his early promise and is prone to making costly errors. Could single handedly knock Australia out of the World Cup - will probably be cut.
- Craig Moore - adds a lot of experience but his lack of pace and lack of sharpness after a couple seasons in the A-League makes him very suspect. Might get cut.
One of the big issues for the Socceroos going into the World Cup is there are a lot of players in the squad that are coming back from injuries in the last few months.

He has looked ordinary in his recent performances. We have no shortage of ordinary midfielders - so why persist with an old ordinary midfielder when we have lots of younger ordinary midfielders with more pace and greater unpredictability.

So has my mother but that does not make her a great footballer....

but I understand what you are saying. His experience would have been a positive but we already have a pretty experienced group of midfielders.
