FINALS SPOTS UP FOR GRABS AS WINTER SUPER LEAGUE REGULAR SEASON CONCLUDES

Stanmore Hawks striker Neil Phillipou has come from the clouds to tip out Fairfield City Lions striker Robert Younis and secure the coveted Golden Boot trophy with a dramatic two goal performance in his sides 4-3 win over Dulwich Hill. In front of a small but hearty group of Hawks fans, Phillipou scored a spectacular overhead goal in the 17th minute and then forced home a goal under pressure in the 80th minute to eclipse Younis at the last hurdle.

"It was a terrific performance from Phillipou - he was the difference between the two sides," said Dulwich Hill coach Paul Carter.

At Norford Park in the other Group A clash, the Canterbury-Bankstown Berries eased their relegation fears with a hardfought 2-1 win over the Fairfield City Lions. Desperately needing the three points to lift themselves above the bottom two the Berries can thank club veteran Aheleas Kotsopoulos for two second half goals that cancelled out an earlier strike from the Lions Serkan Eral.

The loss still leaves the Lions in the top five depending on the result in the Northern Tigers v Macarthur Rams game set down for today.

In Group B action, Bonnyrigg White Eagles slumped to their fifth straight loss at home to the Central Coast Lightning going down 3-2. White Eagles coach Dane Blanusa at a loss to explain his sides end of season woes that robbed the club the chance to compete in the final series.

At St George Stadium the Saints watched their finals hopes slip away as Sydney University held them to a 2-2 draw. The students making all the early running to lead 2-0 with just fifteen minutes left to play before the home side fought back with two late goals from a Raphael Bove penalty and a Fred Umlil strike. The result leaving the former Premier League heavyweights out of the running for the top five.

In Group B, all eyes will be on Mills Park where the Northern Tigers meet the Macarthur Rams (kickoff 3.00pm). A win for the Tigers could see them finish as high as third while the Rams will be desperate for points to avoid the bottom three and possible relegation.

Group B leaders the Western Rage will start raging hot favourites against bottom side the Sydney Wanderers at Garside Park on Sunday (kickoff 3.00pm).
