If Australia had their best 11 they wouldn't be anywhere near the quality of Argentina it annoys me when we try and match them for skill and end up looking stupid - being physical is the only way we can come close - thugs is overstated but definetly were physical last night and well done
cmon knight7... next u will say lets go back to the long ball???
can u get over this english style game!!! physical, get stucking, run hard, no skill, kick and run!!! yeah... set australian football back to the 80's
if we are going to improve technically and move forward then we should try to be positive and try to play football instead of bringing the english style thuggery!
we should be encouraging players to keep the ball, play with flair not be physical as you put it!
your style of play belongs in amateurs and that why all english style teams dominate... look to the federation and you dont see an english backed team dominate!
quoted for truth.
by admitting defeat and playing like thugs is gonna put us back in the stone age.
copping a couple years of hidings would be worth it if there is light at the end of the tunnel. physicality will only get us so far.
sorry guys your right we should have been able to outplay Argentina - Holman is twice the player that Messi is - the English style game doesn't work that's why no English team will ever win the European Cup!
And if we cop a couple of years worth of defeats the game would be dead - the public want results if you think 70,000 would turn up to see us lose well for the next 2-3 years your kidding yourself

with an attitude like that no wonder australian soccer is where it is.
countries like france, italy and germany can be just as physical as us if need be, but way more skillful, where do we go from there genius? very narrow minded

I think or at least hope you have missed the point - Australia still suffer greatly with depth, take away Viduka, Emerton, Cahill, Kewell etc we don't have anywhere near the quality to compete with the second best (or second highest rated) country in the world. If you think the Australian Footballing public would have been happy with a 3 or 4-0 defeat then you have no idea - the game moved forward again last night with the Socceroos earning more respect - simple enough for you?

lol where did the physical style ever get engand? they struggle these days. I personally thought australia wouldnt beat argentina simply because where not good enough under arnold, what also bothered me was argentina had there full side, and where playin nick mrdja?? how embarassing.
Theres no doubt we are good enough to compete against the world, we have already proven that, we just need the right structure aka a good coach, assisting coach (not john kosmina).
Its like when u cook something.....u need the right ingredients to make it turn out....rite?? lol

Very true, and i think people are forgetting the players which weren't playing for Argentina last night - all regulars - Riquelme, Cambiasso, Crespo, Rodriguez...could've really hurt us...

Australia's performance wasnt too bad last,1nil isnt a bad result compared to the quality the argies had out their last night,Both sides were unlucky not to get few goals but i see nicki carle with no future,he seems like as glory hunter and has never done anything as yet, rather see Bresciano play full game instead of Carle playign for 20mins....

Well its about time Bresciano hit a decent free kick.
Thank god
Why the heck did Skoko take a free kick. Bresciano should of just took it again.
Great game for the lads

I thought Carney was a joke, no way is he Australia's replacement for a left back or left midfield. A man of his young age should not need to continually pull players shirts and drag them too the ground to keep up. They were simply too smart and too fast for him. He is clearly not good enough to play at that level. I thought he was a joke in the Asian Cup but his performance the other night has concreted my thoughts.
