I wonder if it was that 0.1 million pounds extra Newcastle paid that made him move there instead of Portsmouth... hahaha

Excellent player, hope he does well, should prove to be a good move.

Hey Platini just got a question for you not bein a smart muscat but you say he's a gun but do you think he is Newcastles answer to Shearer they say he is the next Shearer? and do you think he will handle the pressure knowing everyone has that expectation of him?

He'll handle the pressure, but is about as different a striker to the great Shearer as you can get. Not as tall and good in the air, but way faster and superb on the break. Will be great fot the toon fans and will be a cult hero. I don't think he will score as many as Shearer and feel Newcastle will need to change their style a little to. more of the break against the bigger teams anyway and use their wide players more as Martins biggest threat is his change of pace and direction of his runs and balls in from the flank give him a sight of the ball and the defence, allways easier to lose your man that way.

Whilst villa were belting newcastle.....

But Newcastle's misery in losing their 12-game unbeaten run was compounded when new signing Obafemi Martins was carried off on a stretcher after the interval with what looked like a knee injury.

Newcastle relief at Martins injury
From correspondents in Newcastle
August 28, 2006 NEWCASTLE striker Obafemi Martins should be fit to face Fulham a week on Saturday despite sustaining a knee injury during his English Premier League debut against Aston Villa overnight.

The Nigerian, who completed his £10 million ($24.9 million) move from Inter Milan only last week, left the pitch on a stretcher during the second half of the 2-0 defeat at Villa Park.

He looked as if he had sustained a serious injury, but Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder breathed a sigh of relief when he learnt that Martins would not be joining long-term casualty Michael Owen on the sidelines.

"He has been in some discomfort but we think it is just a nasty dead leg where he will have had a bleed in the muscle," the official Newcastle website quoted Roder as saying today.

"He will be sore for a few days, but we don't think there will be any problems with regards to the next game against Fulham."

I went to the Villa game the diffrence in the two teams was Villa were able to bury their chances while Newcastle had no real danger in front of goal.

Not sure how Martins got injured but me & the 4,000 other Geordies sure felt sick as he was strechered off.

Glad to hear it is just a dead leg.

Why would he not want to play in Nigeria?

The Nigerian FA is investigating how Akwa United, who scored only 12 goals in 14 league games all season, managed to beat Calabar Rovers 13-0 and gain promotion to the country's Premier League ahead of rivals Bussdor on goal difference ... by one goal.

Thought he'd preffer serie a than the premiership :D
